Role:
Quality Control Technician is responsible for evaluating and assessing that HACCP and Quality Assurance Programs are properly maintained in compliance with regulatory guidelines though auditing/inspection, product quality control, data entry and reporting findings and data collected to verify compliance or to identify a need for corrective action. In addition the Quality Control Technician will provide support to Operations with the objective of meeting food safety requirements efficiently. The Quality Control Technician will be responsible for following established food safety and quality procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-operational inspection on operating equipment when required before handing off for start-up.
- Perform all line checks to ensure compliance with product specifications.
- Monitor all line settings and document in accordance with process control requirements.
- Adhere to food safety and HACCP Principles.
- Audit, assess and report compliance level for documented process control standards
- Perform critical control point checks, pre shipment reviews, allergen checks on process as outlined in the HACCP requirements and other QA duties defined within the Quality Assurance Plan
- Trouble shoot processing lines and provide solutions to operations that target manufacturing and food safety requirements
- Evaluate held product, suggest disposition and inform appropriate Quality Assurance personnel as required
- Inspect raw material products and outgoing product and report any deficiencies and off-specification product to Quality Assurance Manager
- Perform various inspections (ie. daily operational inspection, room temperature monitoring, metal detection verification, building inspection, locker inspection)
- Complete QC-related documents with accuracy and error-free
- Review and verify production records for completion and accuracy
- Ongoing GMP compliance monitoring
- Responsible for sample (swabs, raw materials, products) collection
- Responsible for sensory evaluation and in-house laboratory organoleptic and microbial product testing
Requirements
- University/Bachelor/Diploma of Food Science & chemical or Equivalent
- Minimum one year of related experience, preferably in the meat industry
- Basic knowledge of CFIA SFCR, GFSI (BRC) requirements
- Attention to detail with good time management skill
- Good communication skill (verbal and writing)
- Good analytical skill and be able to take appropriate immediate actions to ensure food safety is not compromised
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Flexible to work shifts and overtime
