We work at the intersection of agentic AI and applied security - and we take seriously what it means to build systems that act in real enterprise environments.\nWho are we looking for?\nWe’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the core backend team building Insight OS: the layer that turns findings from Surf’s data pipeline into scalable, reliable, customer-facing insights.\nThis is a deep technical role for an engineer with strong backend experience, comfort working with data at scale, and the ability to move fast while maintaining high standards. You’ll own critical systems end-to-end, solve complex backend and data challenges, and work closely with Product, Research, Data, and Engineering to turn ambiguous needs into pragmatic, high-impact solutions.\nYou care about building systems that are correct, reliable, observable, and scalable - but also about building the right things for customers.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign, build, and operate backend systems that generate customer-facing insights from Surf’s data pipeline.\nWrite production-grade code that meets design specifications, anticipates edge cases, and is built for reliability and long-term maintainability.\nOwn systems end-to-end, from design and implementation to deployment, observability, and production reliability.\nSolve backend and data challenges around scale, correctness, freshness, performance, and reliability.\nTranslate ambiguous product, research, and technical needs into clear technical solutions.\nRaise the engineering bar through strong design, high-quality code, ownership, and clear communication.\nCollaborate closely with Product, Research, Data, and Engineering teams.\nRequired Skills & Experience\n6+ years of professional software engineering experience.\nStrong backend engineering background, with experience designing and operating production systems at scale.\nStrong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, data modeling, and system design.\nExperience building data-intensive systems.\nHands-on experience with data stores such as ClickHouse, Postgres, or similar.\nProficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust.\nExperience working in cloud-native environments.\nStrong communication skills and ability to work well across teams.\nStrong ownership, urgency, and comfort operating in ambiguity.\nExperience with data pipelines or orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect: An Advantage.\nBackground in security,
