This is a hands-on senior role: you will design, code, ship,\noperate, and continuously improve distributed systems in production.\nYou're someone who has seen production fail, learned from it, and built better systems because of it. You care about observability, reliability, and code quality not as checkboxes but as craft. You're comfortable with ambiguity, collaborative by nature, and you raise the bar for the engineers around you.\nWhat you’ll do\nDesign and implement distributed backend systems: services that are resilient,\nobservable, and scalable (latency, throughput, reliability).\n\nBuild event-driven and asynchronous architectures using queues, pub/sub,\nbackground workers, and idempotent processing.\n\nOwn production reliability: performance tuning, incident response, on-call participation\n(if applicable), and systematic improvements (SLOs, error budgets, runbooks).\n\nRaise the engineering bar: lead by example in code quality, API design, testing\nstrategy, and operational best practices.\n\nDeeply instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces; help standardize\nobservability patterns across the platform.\n\nPartner with Product and other engineers to define success metrics, measure impact,\n\nand iterate quickly based on real usage.\n\nMentor and guide: review designs and PRs, support other engineers, and shape\n\nlong-term technical direction.\n\nSpecifically, we’re looking for\n\nSenior experience (typically 8+ years) building and operating backend systems in\n\nproduction.\n\nStrong coding skills in Go (production-grade, not scripting).\n\nDistributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, backpressure, retries, idempotency,\nconsistency tradeoffs, schema evolution, failure modes.\n\nCloud and infrastructure maturity (AWS preferred): designing services with managed\ncloud components, scaling patterns, cost awareness.\n\nKubernetes and Docker experience: containerized services, deployments, operational\n\nworkflows.\n\nObservability expertise: traces, metrics, logs, dashboards, alerting, incident analysis\n(Datadog and/or OpenTelemetry experience is a plus).\n\nDatabases: strong PostgreSQL skills (schema design, indexing, query tuning) plus\ncomfort working with OpenSearch and modern data stores.\n\nEngineering rigor: testing strategies (unit, integration, contract), CI/CD hygiene, safe\nrollout patterns (feature flags, canaries, gradual releases).\n\nBonus\n\nExperience with queueing and streaming systems (SQS, SNS, Kafka, Kinesis,\n\nRabbitMQ, Pub/Sub).\n\nVector databases and retrieval patterns (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus, Qdrant,\n\nOpenSearch vector).\n\nRedis, MongoDB (only if truly used and not just “resume keywords”).\n\nTerraform (or equivalent IaC), GitHub Actions (or similar CI/CD).\n\nSecurity basics for backend systems (authn/authz, secrets management, least privilege,\n\nthreat-aware design).\n\nWhat success looks like\nServices that are easier to operate: clear SLOs, better alerts, faster incident resolution.\n\nHigher throughput and lower latency as usage grows.\n\nStronger platform foundations: repeatable patterns for async processing, observability,\n\nand safe deployments.\n\nA team that levels up through your mentorship and technical leadership.\n\nIdeally, you are someone that\n\nHas previously worked in startups - comfortable navigating some uncertainty and high\n\nenergy environments\n\nEnjoys the collaborative process with different roles to design, implement and iterate on\n\npossible ideas and solutions\n\nIs not a perfectionist but has a mindset of continuous, incremental improvements\n\ntowards top-quality work\n\nIs great at communicating with engineers, product managers, and other team members\n\nBonus:\nWorked in the SalesTech space\n\nOur ProcessWe want to be mindful of your time while finding the right candidate for our team. No homework to do, only human interactions ! Our typical recruitment timelines looks like this:\n\nScreening call with Talent Acquisition (30 minutes) - to know more about you and go deeper about the role\n\nTechnical fit call with CTO (30 minutes) - to get to know each other, know about your technical depth.\n\nVirtual Onsite Session :\n\nCoding Session (1 hour) : In this hands-on session, you'll pair with our engineers to solve a real-world problem, focusing on clean logic, maintainability, and how you think through edge cases in real-time.\n\nSystem Design Interview (1 hour) : We’ll dive into a whiteboard session to explore how you architect scalable systems, specifically looking at your ability to navigate technical trade-offs and balance performance with simplicity.\n\nCulture and Values Interview (30 minutes) : We’ll wrap up by exploring our core values and your working style to ensure our environment is one where you’ll feel energized, supported, and empowered to do your best work.\n\nManager Interview (30 minutes) : This is a two-way conversation with your potential lead to discuss your career trajectory, how you navigate project ownership, and how we can support your growth within the team.\n\nIf all goes well, we’ll then make you an offer !\nWhat we offer\nUp to 100K€ package, depending on equity, profile and contract type\n\nChallenging and interesting work\n\nA place in our diverse team\n\nA healthy work environment (few meetings and “low touch” management)\n\nFully-remote work within EU timezones (GMT +/- 3h)\n\nStipend to set up your home office\n\nYearly team events in Paris and offsite\n\nHealth insurance and other benefits applicable to your place of residence, if contract of employment in France or elsewhere via Deel Employer of record\n\nPossibility to work as a freelancer\n\nOriginally posted on Himalayas","description_format":"text","description_chars":5905,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Health insurance","Home office"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Artificial Intelligence","LLM & Generative AI","CRM Software"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-07T02:28:00Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":81,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":0.945,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":7,"reasons":["seen:3","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-10T05:45:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/surfe-senior-backend-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/surfe-senior-backend-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-11T03:24:17Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1054,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3946,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-12T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1982275},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1982275"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fsurfe-senior-backend-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fsurfe-senior-backend-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fsurfe-senior-backend-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/surfe-senior-backend-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fsurfe-senior-backend-engineer"}]}
