We combine expertise in AI with deep clinical knowledge to develop safe, trustworthy systems that improve care, expand access, and reduce waste.\nKnit is led by a founding team with roots at the University of California, Berkeley. The team has developed a novel AI architecture designed to reason like physicians. We are now using that foundation model, together with frontier clinical LLMs, to build a next-generation clinical intelligence platform for healthcare providers.\nWe are venture backed and work with U.S.-based health systems and data providers.\nWhat you'll do\nAs a Data Engineer II at Knit Health, you'll be a foundational member of a small, high-impact team building the data infrastructure behind our clinical AI platform. You'll help develop the clinical world data model that powers our AI systems, transforming complex healthcare data into reliable inputs for model training, research, and real-world applications.\nDesign, build, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure at scale, collaborating closely with our science, AI, and product teams.\nExpand our data integrations to new clinical and healthcare data sources, including the processing, modeling, and quality safeguards needed for reliable downstream use.\nBuild and optimize large-scale, data processing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.\nDrive data and product integrations with healthcare clients deploying our AI models.\nHelp shape our data architecture and establish standards for data quality, testing, documentation, and observability.\nMinimum qualifications\nWe're looking for candidates with strong engineering fundamentals, experience building production data systems, and the ability to independently solve complex technical problems.\nSystems thinking and problem-solving: Ability to reason from first principles, understand how complex systems work, and independently design and troubleshoot solutions without relying exclusively on off-the-shelf tools.\nData engineering fundamentals: Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT, orchestration, database architecture, and data quality, including the underlying principles that make data systems scalable and reliable.\nLarge scale data processing: Hands-on experience processing large datasets using Spark or comparable frameworks, with an understanding of distributed computing, performance, and scalability.\nEngineering experience: Approximately 4-6 years of professional data engineering experience, or equivalent hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining production data pipelines and infrastructure.\nProgramming proficiency: Strong Python and SQL skills, including complex queries, data transformations, and writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code.\nCloud infrastructure: Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.\nWe value demonstrated engineering capability over a specific educational path. A background in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical discipline is valuable, but we also welcome candidates who have developed equivalent expertise through hands-on experience.\nNice-to-haves\nExperience working with healthcare data, particularly provider-side clinical and claims workflows, including submitted and adjudicated claims.\nExperience with Epic, EHR systems, or healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR and HL7.\nFamiliarity with healthcare privacy and compliance frameworks, including HIPAA.\nExperience using AI-assisted coding tools while maintaining strong code quality and testing practices.\nExperience optimizing large-scale data processing workloads for cost and performance.\nExperience with Azure and Databricks. \nLocation\nSan Francisco, CA preferred, with a hybrid work arrangement of two to three days per week in the office. Remote candidates may be considered based on experience and qualifications.\nSalary Range\nKnit Health offers a competitive compensation package that includes base salary, equity, and opportunities for advancement. The starting salary range is approximately $150,000 to $175,000 per year. \nBenefits\nGenerous benefits for full-time employees include: medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of premiums paid for employees and dependents (full coverage for dental, vision, and our Gold medical plan; employees may choose to buy up to Platinum); coverage begins on the first day of employment. Additional benefits include a 401(k) plan and 24 days of PTO annually.\nFinal Notes\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.\nKnit Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to a diverse workplace. People from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5108,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":4,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Hybrid work"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-29T17:01:10Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":24,"reasons":["conf:3","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-30T05:48:23Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":175000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/sux-data-engineer-ii","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/sux-data-engineer-ii.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-31T03:44:37Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":5244,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-01T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":720418},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=720418"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fsux-data-engineer-ii"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fsux-data-engineer-ii"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fsux-data-engineer-ii"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/sux-data-engineer-ii\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fsux-data-engineer-ii"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3470667}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"sux.one","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3470667},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
