Our client is a finance company and an alternative lending platform focused on providing capital access to small and medium-sized businesses.\nYou will lead an engineering team on a fintech client engagement. This is a full-stack role combining hands-on Scala backend and React frontend development with technical leadership, team management, and client communication.\nTime zone: U.S. Eastern Time (ET)\nRequirements\n7+ years of commercial software development experience with strong Scala expertise.\n3+ years of experience in a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or similar leadership role.\nProven experience leading engineering teams in a client-facing environment.\nExposure to React and modern frontend development.\nStrong knowledge of software architecture, data structures, concurrency, and performance optimization.\nExperience with RabbitMQ (experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems is a plus).\nExperience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases.\nSolid commercial experience with AWS.\nExperience with REST APIs and microservice-based architectures.\nExperience working in an Agile environment.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English.\nWill be a plus\nExperience with Heroku or Python.\nBackground in fintech or financial services.\nResponsibilities\nTechnical leadership\nLead technical design and implementation across the Scala backend and React frontend.\nRemain hands-on in development, with a stronger backend focus when needed.\nDefine architecture for new features, services, and integrations.\nEstablish coding standards and engineering best practices.\nLead code reviews and support the team with complex technical issues.\nEnsure system performance, scalability, reliability, and security.\nEvaluate libraries, frameworks, and technical solutions together with the client’s engineering team.\nTeam leadership\nLead, mentor, and support the engineering team.\nMaintain clear priorities and consistent delivery quality.\nFacilitate stand-ups, planning, refinement, and retrospectives.\nIdentify delivery risks, dependencies, workload, and capacity issues.\nSupport onboarding and knowledge sharing across the team.\nClient collaboration\nAct as the primary technical point of contact for the client’s engineering and product teams.\nCommunicate technical risks, blockers, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly.\nParticipate in planning sessions, discovery workshops, technical discussions, and sprint reviews.\nTranslate business requirements into technical tasks and implementation plans.\nAlign key
