What will you be doing?

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Research and Development Assistant Manager to join our team in Birmingham. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing and executing tax research projects, with a focus on R&D tax incentives and credits within the IT/ Software sector.

As an Assistant Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Support and lead on technical discussions with the software team at the client to establish which of the activities undertaken on a project meet the R&D tax criteria as set out in the DSIT guidelines.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and presentations for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate on R&D tax engagements, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outputs
  • Analyse complex issues and provide well-reasoned solutions to clients and team members
  • Stay abreast of changes in UK tax legislation, particularly those related to R&D tax credits
  • Manage and mentor junior team members, overseeing their work and professional development
  • Liaise with HMRC and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients when necessary
  • Contribute to the development of new service offerings and methodologies in R&D tax
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide comprehensive tax solutions to clients
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures and professional standards

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • Previous experience in R&D tax field
  • Proven experience in managing projects and teams
  • Advanced knowledge of UK tax laws and regulations, particularly those related to R&D
  • Expertise in UK tax legislation and HMRC guidelines
  • Proficiency in tax research software and databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
