The company is moving quickly to launch the first aircraft designed specifically for swarming, as well as the Command & Control software to mobilize swarms of thousands of heterogeneous autonomous assets and empower human operators to achieve superhuman results.\nThe team has created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense deals worth billions of dollars, and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft, with aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.\nAbout the Role\nOur avionics system is built and running on aircraft hardware. The work now is extending it: new sensors, new capabilities, new functions, one integration at a time, for as long as the program runs.\nWe're looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our avionics team and own that work. You'll write real-time embedded software that directly controls aircraft systems, from flight control and sensor integration to communication protocols. This is safety-critical software on hardware that flies, and the surface keeps growing.\nWhat You'll Do\nExtend the avionics, autonomy, and ground control software for a large uncrewed aircraft, adding capability to a system that already runs\n\nDesign, integrate, and support embedded systems in real-time and non-real-time environments, on the ground and in the air\n\nBring up new sensors, payloads, and networking capabilities on existing avionics, and make them coexist with everything already on the vehicle\n\nBuild out our SIL and HIL test architecture so every new function is verified before it touches an aircraft\n\nDevelop simulation models and verify software components\n\nOwn your software all the way through: hardware bring-up, integration, test, and the fault you end up chasing down on the actual vehicle\n\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.\n\n3+ years of experience in embedded systems development, preferably in the aerospace industry.\n\nProficiency in C/C++ programming languages, with experience in assembly language being a plus.\n\nStrong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures.\n\nExperience with RTOS, such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar.\n\nFamiliarity with hardware design and development tools, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.\n\nKnowledge of aerospace standards and protocols, such as DO-178C, ARINC, and MIL-STD.\n\nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.\n\nStrong communication skills, both written and verbal.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with model-based design and development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.\n\nKnowledge of safety-critical software development and certification processes.\n\nUnderstanding of cybersecurity principles as they pertain to embedded systems.\n\nFamiliarity with a major microcontroller or microprocessor family.\n\nExperience in robotics and automation, whether virtual, terrestrial, or aerial.\n\nFamiliarity with network routing and switching.\n\nExperience with Modular Open-Source Architecture components and systems.\n\nExperience with hardware security modules and related components.\n\nWhat we Offer:\nMeaningful equity stake in a high-growth defense technology company\n\nCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience\n\nComprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401k\n\nPTO and Paid Sick Time\n\nMonthly Wellness Stipend\n\nDaily catered lunch to office\n\nPaid parental leave\n\nDirect impact opportunity - be a key leader in building a critical technology for national security\n\nWorld-class team - work alongside exceptional engineers and operators solving hard problems\n\nCandidates for this position must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.\nAs part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and trustworthy work environment, Swarm Aero conducts a thorough screening of prospective employees. Candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background verification process as a prerequisite for employment.\nITAR requirement\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.\nSwarm Aero is an equal opportunity employer. We value diverse backgrounds and experiences and make employment decisions without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, or disability.\nWhat We Offer\nMeaningful equity in a high-growth defense technology company\n\nCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience\n\nMedical, dental, vision, and 401k\n\nPTO and paid sick leave\n\nMonthly wellness stipend\n\nDaily catered lunch (office)\n\nPaid parental leave\n\nDirect impact on a critical national security mission\n\nA world-class team of engineers and operators solving genuinely hard problems","description_format":"text","description_chars":5153,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":true,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Equity","Parental leave"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-01T10:51:08Z"}],"liveness":{"score":68,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.756,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":20,"expected_fill_days":35,"reasons":["conf:1","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-02T02:58:11Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":200000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/swarm-embedded-software-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/swarm-embedded-software-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-02T02:58:11Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4028,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":972,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-03T00:00:00Z"}}}
