The company is moving quickly to launch the first aircraft designed specifically for swarming, as well as the Command & Control software to mobilize swarms of thousands of heterogeneous autonomous assets and empower human operators to achieve superhuman results.\nThe team has created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense deals worth billions of dollars, and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft, with aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.\nAbout this role\nThe Aircraft Engineering team is growing across every discipline it takes to get one designed, built, tested, and flown.\nWe are opening roles faster than we are posting them, so this is one door into all of them. Tell us what you are good at and we will point you at the openings that fit:\nStructures design (composite and metallic primary and secondary structure)\n\nStress and structural analysis\n\nMechanisms and actuation (control surfaces, landing gear, doors, payload systems)\n\nThermal management and environmental control\n\nPropulsion integration\n\nFluid systems (fuel, hydraulics, pneumatics)\n\nMaterials and processes\n\nTest engineering (structural test, ground test, flight test support)\n\nIf your background sits across two of these, say so. At our size that is an advantage, not a problem. Applications are reviewed by our engineering leadership on a rolling basis, and we move quickly when there is a fit.\nWhatever you end up owning here, you own it end to end. It goes from CAD to a supplier to a fixture to the aircraft, and you are there for every step of that, including the ones that go wrong. The program is operated so that you will not be handed a spec and asked to fill it in. You will be in the room where the requirement gets set, arguing for the version of it you can actually build.\nWhat you'll work on\nDesign primary and secondary structure for a large autonomous aircraft\n\nPerform structural analysis and margin assessments on flight hardware\n\nDesign mechanisms and integrate actuation systems\n\nSolve thermal and packaging challenges in tight volumes\n\nBuild and run test campaigns that prove your designs work\n\nWork directly with manufacturing and suppliers to get hardware built\n\nSupport ground and flight test operations\n\nWhat we look for\nBS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field\n\n3+ years of experience designing, analyzing, or testing hardware. Aircraft, spacecraft, automotive, or other high-performance hardware backgrounds all apply\n\nProficiency in CAD (NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks) and a working knowledge of GD&T\n\nHands-on mindset. You have built the things you designed\n\nBias toward speed. You test early and iterate rather than perfect on paper\n\nAbility to work onsite in Oxnard, CA\n\nNice to have\nComposite aircraft structure experience\n\nExperience with FEA tools (Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys)\n\nExperience taking hardware through qualification or certification\n\nExperience at a startup or on a small, fast-moving team\n\nITAR requirement\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.\nSwarm Aero is an equal opportunity employer. We value diverse backgrounds and experiences and make employment decisions without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, or disability.\nWhat We Offer\nMeaningful equity in a high-growth defense technology company\n\nCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience\n\nMedical, dental, vision, and 401k\n\nPTO and paid sick leave\n\nMonthly wellness stipend\n\nDaily catered lunch (office)\n\nPaid parental leave\n\nDirect impact on a critical national security mission\n\nA world-class team of engineers and operators solving genuinely hard problems","description_format":"text","description_chars":4051,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Equity","Parental leave"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-01T10:51:08Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":37,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.664,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":44,"expected_fill_days":35,"reasons":["conf:12","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-03T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":220000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/swarm-mechanical-engineer-aircraft","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/swarm-mechanical-engineer-aircraft.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-04T01:35:57Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2070,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":2930,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-05T00:00:00Z"}}}
