Our customers include some of the world’s best software companies, such as Miro, Webflow, Superhuman, and Lovable.\nWe’re a team of experienced engineers who care deeply about our craft. We practice what we preach: we use Swarmia to build Swarmia, and we’ve figured out how to ship fast while keeping technical debt low and our work-life balance healthy.\nAbout the role and how we work\nWe are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with deep infrastructure expertise to help us build and operate production systems that our customers rely on daily.\nOur infrastructure mainly runs on Google Cloud and is managed with Terraform. Since starting the company five years ago, we’ve reached 99.9% uptime every year. Our code is continuously deployed to production, with high automated test coverage. While we’re very experienced with building production systems that scale, you will be the first person to be fully dedicated to the Platform & Infrastructure work with this title.\nExamples of things you'll do\nAssist product teams in running their Kubernetes payloads and automating manual steps.\n\nDesign and implement infrastructure changes using Terraform\n\nCollaborate with product teams to optimize application performance and resource utilization\n\nLook near: Notice our message queue getting backed up? Dive in, analyze the bottleneck, and implement a solution before it affects our users\n\nLook far: See our cloud costs trending up? Analyze usage patterns, identify optimization opportunities, and work with the team to implement efficient solutions\n\nConfigure VPCs and securely segment production networks\n\nWrite documentation and playbooks with the team - we prefer collaborative problem-solving over working in silos\n\nSet up and fine-tune monitoring and SLO alerting in our observability stack to catch issues before they impact customers\n\nPlan when to upsize our PostgreSQL servers or bring more machines to our Kubernetes cluster.\n\nGo spelunking in Google Security Command Center, review security posture, and implement improvements to keep our platform secure and compliant\n\nDesign and implement automated disaster recovery procedures, then work with the team to practice them regularly\n\nAutomate away manual operational tasks - if you find yourself doing something more than twice, it's probably time to automate it\n\nWork with the team to implement and maintain compliance requirements while keeping our development workflow smooth\n\nJump into a customer support chat when there's a problem with a customer's data sync\n\nOptimize PostgreSQL performance by identifying table and index bloat and tuning pg_repack runs\n\nWhy you should join\nThe product: You’ll get to work on a domain that’s relevant and interesting to software engineers. Unlike many other tools in this space, Swarmia is not a tool for stack ranking individual engineers or just a dashboard for the leadership - instead, we serve useful insights and tools for the whole engineering organization. As an engineer, this means you deeply understand the problem space.\nThe developer experience: Since our product is about sensible software development, we take our own practices seriously. We’re deliberate about how we work, but processes aren’t heavier than they need to be. As one of our engineers described it after his first few weeks at Swarmia: “It feels like a bunch of adults came together and spent some serious time to figure out how to do this software thing well.”\nThe people: You’ll get very experienced colleagues with wide skillsets and different backgrounds. You’ll get full access to all business metrics, leadership team meeting notes, and board meeting memos. Things just work, but your initiative matters a lot. We maintain a great work-life balance, don’t do any crunching, and keep up a sustainable pace without compromising quality.\nTech stack\nStrict-mode TypeScript everywhere with high test coverage. React frontend using Apollo and a design system that’s tested with React Testing Library. Node backend with Apollo Server, slonik, and PostgreSQL. Infrastructure automated with Terraform on Google Cloud (GKE, PubSub) with automatic deployments to production after each change.\nWe don’t expect you to know all these tools beforehand, though - we’d be happy to show you the ropes. We care more about how you think and how fast you learn.\nInterview process\nWe want to see how you work, not test your leetcode skills. The process includes:\nIntro call with the recruiter to learn more about you and share more about Swarmia.\n\nHiring manager call - meeting with 1-2 engineering leads to deep dive into your experience.\n\nTechnical interview - no live-coding or home assignments. Conversation with 2 Swarmia engineers around the full spectrum of software development - frontend, backend, security, testing, DevOps, and software engineering practices - designed to explore your strengths and give you space to show what you know.\n\nLeadership interview - a short discussion with our CEO and Head of Engineering to assess mutual culture fit.\n\nWe’ll prep you for each round and provide feedback regardless of outcome. We aim to respond within 1-2 days. Our interviews are a two-way conversation - each stage is a chance for you to learn about us just as much as we learn about you.\nYour first few months at Swarmia\nYour dev environment sets up with a single script. You’ll push your first change on day one. Over your first 90 days, you’ll ship increasingly complex features - from simple updates to prominent features.\nYou’ll get a designated onboarding buddy from your team, plus the whole team running training sessions on our culture, product, and technical architecture.
