Working alongside Engineering Leads and Product Owners, you will help shape the technical direction of critical business applications, collaborating with diverse global teams to deliver meaningful outcomes.\nThis is a role where your technical depth meets strategic thinking - and where your contributions will be felt across the entire organization.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and implement advanced Oracle SQL/PL-SQL solutions - including complex queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and packages - to support enterprise-grade applications\nPerform Oracle database administration tasks including performance tuning, security configuration, and backup/recovery procedures to ensure high availability and data integrity\nCreate, modify, and maintain database objects such as tables, views, indexes, and constraints to support evolving application needs\nOptimize database performance through query tuning, index optimization, and detailed execution plan analysis\nDevelop and manage ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data efficiently across various systems and pipelines\nDiagnose and resolve database-related issues proactively, ensuring system stability, data integrity, and optimal performance\nPartner with application developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate business data requirements into scalable and robust database solutions\nConduct and participate in code reviews to uphold database best practices, performance standards, and secure coding guidelines\nImplement and maintain database security controls to safeguard sensitive and confidential information\nDocument database designs, development standards, and operational procedures in alignment with organizational guidelines\nStay current with the latest Oracle database features, tools, and industry trends, proactively recommending enhancements and improvements\nEngage across global, cross-functional teams - both internal and external - bringing a collaborative and inclusive approach to every interaction\nAbout the Team\nYou will be joining the L&H Re Engineering team - a global, passionate group of technologists dedicated to the technical architecture and engineering of IT solutions for Swiss Re's Life & Health Reinsurance business unit. You bring a strategic mindset to technical challenges, are comfortable navigating ambiguity, and have a track record of delivering high-quality database solutions in agile, cross-functional teams. You communicate clearly, listen actively, and are energized by working with diverse teams across the globe.\nWe are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:\n7+ years of hands-on Oracle SQL and PL/SQL experience, with demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining enterprise-grade database solutions\nStrong Oracle database administration skills, including performance tuning, security configuration, and backup/recovery procedures\nProven experience designing and developing complex database objects - stored procedures, functions, triggers, and PL/SQL packages - along with ETL process development and management\nStrong expertise in advanced Oracle database concepts including Partitioning, Materialized Views, Sequences, and Synonyms for scalable and efficient data design\nProficiency in SQL Performance Tuning, including hands-on experience with SQL Trace, Explain Plan, Execution Plan Analysis, and SQL Tuning Advisor to identify bottlenecks and optimize query performance in high-volume systems\nSolid understanding of relational database concepts, including normalization principles, data modeling techniques, and query optimization strategies\nExperience leveraging agentic development practices and AI-assisted tools for query generation, code optimization, refactoring, and debugging - improving productivity, consistency, and development speed\nExperience working in agile, cross-functional, and continuous delivery teams, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver across multiple products simultaneously\nThese are additional nice to haves:\nFamiliarity with cloud-based database platforms or hybrid cloud environments\nExperience with data pipeline tools and modern ETL/ELT frameworks\nExposure to the reinsurance or financial services industry and an understanding of business data requirements in that context\nStrong documentation skills with experience writing technical specifications, development standards, and operational procedures\nOur company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.\nAbout Swiss Re\nSwiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer, working to make the world more resilient.
