Do you feel up for it, then apply now!\nThe NatCat Engineering Manager leads the engineering organization responsible for delivering and operating critical Natural Catastrophe (NatCat) platforms and systems. The role combines engineering leadership, people management, technical strategy, and operational accountability to ensure reliable, scalable, and business-aligned technology solutions that support Swiss Re's business strategies.\nYou will drive engineering excellence, enable high-performing teams, partner with business stakeholders, and ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives across the NatCat technology landscape. Our team consists of architects, developers and test engineers with a shared company mission: to make the world more resilient.\nIn close collaboration with our business peers and surrounding tech teams we act in true start-up fashion - innovative and cross-functional.\nKey Responsibilities:\nEngineering Leadership & People Management\nLead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, platform engineers, and technical specialists.\n\nCreate a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.\n\nConduct performance, career development, hiring, succession planning, and talent management activities.\n\nSupport engineers in growing technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and AI adoption practices.\n\nTechnical Strategy & Architecture\nDefine and drive the technology roadmap for NatCat platforms and services.\n\nGuide architectural decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise standards and strategic objectives.\n\nPromote engineering best practices across software development, testing, security, cloud adoption, and operational excellence.\n\nDrive modernization initiatives and continuous improvements to platform scalability, resiliency, and maintainability.\n\nChampion adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and emerging technologies.\n\nProduct Delivery & Execution\nOwn successful delivery of engineering commitments across NatCat products and programs.\n\nPartner with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders to convert strategy into executable roadmaps.\n\nManage priorities, dependencies, capacity planning, and resource allocation.\n\nEnsure delivery predictability, quality, and transparency through data-driven decision making.\n\nRequired Qualifications:\nSignificant experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or technology delivery.\n\nDemonstrated success managing large scale business-critical applications and services.\n\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\n\nStrategic thinking and execution focus.\n\nStrong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.\n\nLeadership Skills\nExperience leading engineering teams in complex enterprise environments.\n\nExperience operating within large scale agile delivery models.\n\nStrong people leadership and coaching capabilities.\n\nAbility to lead through ambiguity and organizational change.\n\nTechnical Skills\nStrong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise architecture.\n\nFamiliarity with DevOps, CI/CD, observability, automation, and platform engineering practices.\n\nKnowledge of software quality, security, and operational excellence principles.\n\nBackground in software development (preferably in Java)\n\nExperience with data-intensive and analytics-driven applications is advantageous.\n\nFor Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 3,800] and [EUR 6,300] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:\nthe requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, \nthe applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.\nIn addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements.
