The ideal candidate will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, administration, maintenance, performance optimization, security, backup/recovery, and high availability of critical SQL Server database environments.\n\nThis is a highly hands-on technical role requiring strong expertise in SQL Server administration, database troubleshooting, performance tuning, HA/DR, automation, upgrades, and migrations. The candidate should also possess strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.\n\nThe role will involve supporting SQL Server environments across development, testing, and mission-critical production systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, security, and consistent application performance.\n\nKey Roles & Responsibilities Database Administration\n\nAdminister and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, staging, and production environments.\nPerform database installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, and ongoing administration.\nManage SQL Server environments throughout the complete database product lifecycle.\nMonitor database health, availability, capacity, and overall system performance.\nEnsure databases meet organizational standards for reliability, security, and performance.\n\nPerformance Tuning & Optimization\n\nPerform SQL Server Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).\nIdentify and resolve database performance bottlenecks involving queries, indexes, CPU, memory, I/O, and database configuration.\nAnalyze execution plans and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.\nUse native SQL Server monitoring and troubleshooting tools to proactively identify performance issues.\nEstablish and maintain performance-monitoring processes and best practices.\n\nBackup, Recovery & Data Protection\n\nDesign, implement, maintain, and regularly test database backup and recovery strategies.\nPerform database backup, restore, and recovery operations.\nManage appropriate SQL Server recovery models based on application and business requirements.\nEnsure data integrity and minimize downtime in the event of database failures.\nExposure to Commvault for database backup and recovery is an added advantage.\n\nHigh Availability & Disaster Recovery\n\nConfigure and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.\nAdminister Failover Cluster Instances (FCI) and SQL Server replication.\nSupport the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.\nParticipate in DR exercises and ensure recovery procedures meet defined business requirements.\nTroubleshoot failover, synchronization, replication, and availability-related issues.\n\nDatabase Security\n\nImplement and manage SQL Server security controls.\nCreate and administer database users, logins, roles, and permissions.\nEnsure appropriate access controls and adherence to security policies.\nSupport database encryption and other security mechanisms as required.\nMaintain compliance with organizational security standards and industry best practices.\n\nTroubleshooting & Production Support\n\nIndependently analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex database issues.\nProvide end-to-end problem resolution for production and business-critical database incidents.\nPerform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.\nWork closely with application, infrastructure, development, and support teams to resolve cross-functional issues.\nParticipate in incident, problem, and change-management activities.\n\nAutomation & Scripting\n\nAutomate routine DBA activities using PowerShell and T-SQL.\nDevelop and maintain scripts for database monitoring, maintenance, health checks, backups, and administrative tasks.\nIdentify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation.\n\nUpgrades, Migrations & Patching\n\nPlan and execute SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and patching activities.\nSupport database version upgrades while minimizing application downtime and business impact.\nPerform migration assessments, planning, testing, execution, and post-migration validation.\nMaintain SQL Server environments in accordance with organizational lifecycle and patch-management requirements.\n\nMSBI / Reporting\n\nHands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL job development, execution, monitoring, and troubleshooting.\nExperience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for reporting solutions and dashboards.\nSupport database and reporting requirements for business applications.\n\nRequired Skills & Qualifications \n\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n10+ years of hands-on experience in Database Administration with Microsoft SQL Server.\nStrong hands-on experience with SQL Server 2019, 2022, and/or newer versions.\nStrong proficiency in T-SQL, including:\nComplex queries\nStored procedures\nTriggers\nViews\nQuery optimization\nStrong experience in SQL Server Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).\nHands-on experience with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.\nStrong knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery models.\nExperience implementing and managing Always On Availability Groups.\nKnowledge of Failover Cluster Instances (FCI) and SQL Server replication.\nStrong understanding of HA/DR concepts and implementation.\nExperience with SQL Server security, including users, logins, roles, permissions, and encryption.\nStrong troubleshooting and production-support experience.\nHands-on experience with PowerShell and/or T-SQL scripting for automation.\nExperience with database upgrades, migrations, and patch management.\nHands-on experience with SSIS and SSRS.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a production environment.\n Additional Database Technologies Value Added\n\nExperience with one or more of the following database technologies will be considered an advantage:\n\nMySQL\nPostgreSQL\nMongoDB\nOther NoSQL database environments\n\nPreferred / Good-to-Have Skills \n\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent database
