Symmetrio is recruiting a full-time Field Service Engineer for our client, a medical device company specializing in proton therapy systems for cancer treatment. This role will provide technical support and service for proton therapy equipment and related clinical systems at customer sites.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical, mechanical, or technical background and enjoy troubleshooting complex equipment in a customer-facing environment. They will be responsible for equipment operation, preventive and corrective maintenance, system troubleshooting, repairs, testing, documentation, and customer support.

This is a full-time position based in Morristown, NJ, offering $40-$42 per hour, along with a competitive benefits package. More than 40 hours per week is often required.

Must be able to work flexible shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays; travel domestically and internationally as needed; and work safely around hazardous equipment and environments. Must also be able to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, troubleshoot, test, and maintain proton therapy systems and related equipment at customer sites.
  • Provide on-site technical support, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, repairs, and post-service testing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, software, instrumentation, control, and system interface issues to restore equipment performance.
  • Monitor system operation and treatment performance, identify potential issues or improvements, and communicate system status to customers and internal teams.
  • Support related clinical and technical systems, including motion control systems, CT scanners, X-ray and radiological equipment, and robotic systems.
  • Perform service activities in accordance with maintenance schedules, quality requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.
  • Document service interventions, equipment issues, performance metrics, and corrective actions in accordance with facility, FDA, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain service tools, calibrated equipment, on-site spare parts, inventory, and other materials required for field support.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge of system software, control systems, electrical systems, vacuum systems, water cooling, and hospital infrastructure.
  • Provide a high level of customer service while working independently, collaborating with internal teams, and maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or 4-6+ years of relevant technical experience, including military electronics, mechanics, or similar experience.
  • Experience with radiation therapy equipment, proton therapy systems, medical physics, or dosimetry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong electrical/electronic and mechanical troubleshooting skills, with experience working on complex equipment and technical systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation, computer interfaces, control systems, imaging systems, and software troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of computer networking and networking techniques.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and technical data analysis.
  • Familiarity with systems such as PLCs, sensors, electric motors, regulation loops, drivers, high- and low-voltage equipment, cooling systems, cryogenics, and vacuum systems is a plus.
  • Strong interest in learning complex technology and developing expertise across multiple equipment subsystems.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with minimal supervision in a customer-facing environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
