The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in public accounting, preferably with Big 4 experience, combined with hands-on experience in the biotechnology or life sciences industry.\nThis is a hands-on role with broad exposure across accounting and finance, combining strong technical accounting skills with operational ownership and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and will bring strong technical accounting, analytical, operational and communication skills.\nKey Responsibilities\nManage and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.\nPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.\nPerform detailed analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate variances.\nPrepare and process Payroll, including review of payroll information and related accounting.\nReview and Process Expense Reports\nReview and supervise Accounts Payable, including oversight of day-to-day activities and period-end processes.\nPrepare financial reporting packages and supporting schedules for management.\nSupport the preparation of audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.\nAssist with fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, deferred expenses, and other key accounting areas as needed.\nSupport and strengthen internal controls and process improvements across the accounting function.\nIdentify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, controls, and reporting.\nParticipate in special projects and other operational initiatives as the company advances its technology and mission.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.\n4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in public accounting.\nBig 4 accounting firm experience strongly preferred.\nBiotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other highly regulated industry experience strongly preferred.\nExperience with month-end and year-end close processes.\nStrong understanding of account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement analysis.\nStrong operational accounting skills and willingness to work hands-on across areas such as payroll, AP, expense reporting, and other day-to-day accounting processes.\nAbility to supervise and review the work of others while maintaining ownership of individual responsibilities.\nAbility to identify opportunities for process improvement and greater efficiency and help implement solutions.\nAmbitious and motivated to take on increasing responsibility, learn quickly, and grow with the opportunities created by a fast-moving environment.\nAdvanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.\nExperience with an ERP system such as NetSuite.\nExcellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to work onsite in San Diego, California.\nPreferred Qualifications\nCPA or CPA eligibility.\nFamiliarity with accounting for R&D activities, clinical trials, and CRO/vendor relationships.\nExperience with NetSuite ERP system.\nExperience in a
