Under the direction of the VP, Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Generalist will support and manage a broad range of internal and external Human Resources matters. This position serves as a key resource to team members, managers, and leadership and plays an important role in supporting the organization’s people strategy, culture, and continued growth. The HR Generalist will assist with the development, implementation, and administration of organizational guidelines, policies, and procedures; resourcing, onboarding, development, performance management, and retention; team member engagement and satisfaction; employee relations and issue resolution; payroll and benefits administration; and the organization and maintenance of accurate and confidential employee data and records. The HR Generalist will partner closely with the VP, Human Resources and leadership across the organization to support a high-performing, collaborative, and positive workplace culture. Through day-to-day support and partnership, the HR Generalist will interact with all levels of the agency, providing guidance and support to managers and team members on a wide range of HR-related matters.

Job Duties

HR Operations

  • Support the VP, Human Resources in the administration and ongoing development of the agency’s Human Resources function
  • Serve as a trusted and accessible HR resource to team members, managers, and leadership
  • Support day-to-day people-related needs and organizational priorities
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies, procedures, guidelines, and programs
  • Support key HR operational and administrative initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, and the overall employee experience

Talent Acquisition, Onboarding, and Employee Life Cycle

  • Support the Talent Acquisition and Integration team by assisting with the coordination and execution of onboarding initiatives
  • Ensure new hires have a positive and well-organized introduction to the organization, its culture, policies, and expectations
  • Manage and support key employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, internal changes, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, and offboarding
  • Maintain accurate employee documentation and personnel records throughout the employee lifecycle

Employee Relations and Engagement

  • Serve as a resource for team members and managers regarding workplace questions, concerns, policies, and employee relations matters
  • Assist with investigating and resolving employee concerns in a fair, consistent, and confidential manner
  • Support initiatives designed to improve team member satisfaction, engagement, recognition, and retention
  • Help foster a workplace culture built on collaboration, accountability, respect, and open communication

Organizational Culture and Initiatives

  • Support the development and maintenance of a strong, positive, and inclusive organizational culture
  • Lead and support employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and culture-building initiatives
  • Assist with organizational communications related to HR programs, policies, benefits, and initiatives
  • Serve as a collaborative partner on cross-functional operational and administrative projects

Performance Management and Development

  • Coordinate and support the organization’s performance management and annual appraisal processes
  • Partner with managers to provide process training and establish meaningful performance expectations
  • Assist with performance feedback, coaching, corrective action, and employee development
  • Support career development, professional growth, training, and leadership development initiatives
  • Help identify opportunities to strengthen employee retention and internal career pathways

Compensation, Payroll, and Benefits

  • Support payroll administration and serve as a resource for team members regarding payroll-related questions
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including annual enrollment and ongoing employee questions
  • Maintain accurate compensation and benefits information within applicable HR and payroll systems
  • Assist with compensation reviews, salary benchmarking, promotions, merit increases, and other compensation initiatives as directed

HRIS, Records, and Data Management

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential employee records and personnel files
  • Ensure employee information is accurately maintained within HRIS, payroll, benefits, and other applicable systems
  • Prepare and maintain HR reports, records, and documentation as needed
  • Monitor employee data for accuracy and completeness and coordinate updates as necessary
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of sensitive employee information
  • Assist with ensuring HR policies, practices, and procedures comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Stay current on changes in employment legislation, HR trends, and industry best practices

Compliance and Best Practices

  • Assist with maintaining and updating the employee handbook and other HR documentation
  • Support required employment compliance activities, reporting, audits, and recordkeeping
  • Recommend updates to HR policies and practices based on changes in legislation or emerging best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and applicable employment laws
  • Strong interpersonal (written and verbal) skills with the ability to interact with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to identifying and addressing HR needs
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the VP, Human Resources and cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, benefits, and Microsoft Office systems

Working Conditions

  • In-office presence and in-person collaboration as needed
  • Ability to commit to extra and/or nontraditional hours as organizational needs require
