Senior Full Stack Developer

Syntronic Ottawa Software Design Studio is looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer who can design, build, and deliver modern software solutions across varied customer projects. Depending on the assignment, you may work as a senior individual contributor, technical lead, solution owner, or a key member of a larger engineering team. The role spans front-end and backend development, architecture, APIs, databases, cloud platforms, security, testing, DevOps, and technical delivery. Because Syntronic's B2B project work spans different customers and technology stacks, broad technical adaptability and the ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar technologies are key expectations.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production-grade full stack applications across the complete software development lifecycle.
• Own or lead the implementation of complex features and solutions spanning user interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases, cloud services, and system integrations.
• Contribute to and, when required by the project, lead software architecture and high-level technical design decisions, including technology selection and implementation trade-offs.
• Design scalable, secure, maintainable APIs and service architectures, including microservices or distributed systems where appropriate.
• Define and apply sound data architecture practices using relational and/or NoSQL databases, including modelling, performance, reliability, and integration considerations.
• Design and support cloud-based application architectures and deployment strategies using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Drive or contribute to CI/CD, automated testing, containerization, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and other modern DevOps practices.
• Apply modern software security practices, including secure API design, authentication and authorization, secrets management, data protection, and cloud security considerations.
• Establish or improve testing approaches, code quality standards, engineering practices, and maintainability across project teams.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize application reliability and performance across front-end, backend, database, and infrastructure layers.
• Work directly with customers, product owners, designers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
• Provide technical estimates, identify risks and dependencies, communicate trade-offs, and support project planning and delivery decisions.
• Conduct code and design reviews, provide technical guidance, mentor less-experienced developers, and help teams deliver effectively.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend appropriate tools or approaches based on project needs rather than technology preference alone.

What you'll need to get the job done

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with substantial hands-on full stack experience delivering complex production software.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one modern front-end framework. Experience across multiple front-end ecosystems is strongly preferred.
• Examples include React/Next.js, Svelte/SvelteKit, Vue/Nuxt, Angular, or equivalent modern technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one modern backend language, framework, or runtime. Experience across multiple backend technologies is strongly preferred.
• Examples include Node.js/TypeScript, Python, .NET/C#, Java/Kotlin, Go, or equivalent modern technologies.
• Demonstrated experience designing full stack application architectures and making or leading technical decisions for production systems, including technology selection, integration patterns, scalability, security, maintainability, and operational trade-offs.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery, mentoring developers, setting engineering direction, conducting code and design reviews, or acting as a technical lead on customer projects.
• Strong experience designing and integrating APIs and services, with the ability to reason about scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and system boundaries.
• Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL database systems, data modelling, query performance, and application data-access patterns.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong working knowledge of modern DevOps practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, containers, application deployment, monitoring, and operational troubleshooting.
• Experience applying secure software development practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption/data protection, secrets management, and secure application design.
• Experience defining or improving automated testing strategies across unit, integration, API, and/or end-to-end testing layers.
• Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous technical problems, transfer engineering and architecture concepts between technology stacks, learn unfamiliar technologies quickly, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
• Experience working directly with customers or business stakeholders on requirements discovery, solution design, estimation, project planning, and communicating technical recommendations and trade-offs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What will make us REALLY love you

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, AWS CDK/CloudFormation, Azure Bicep/ARM, or equivalent tools.
• Strong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms, or other container orchestration technologies.
• Experience designing microservices, event-driven systems, real-time systems, IoT solutions, or other distributed architectures.
• Experience developing mobile applications using native technologies such as Swift or Kotlin, or cross-platform technologies such as Flutter or React Native. Flutter experience is a particularly strong asset.
• Experience across more than one major cloud platform or delivering systems that integrate cloud and on-premises environments.
• Experience in consulting, project-based engineering, SaaS, IoT, B2B, or B2C environments where technologies and responsibilities vary between assignments.
