Please note that the number of days on-site can increase based on business needs.\nJob Summary:\nThe Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing legal counsel and risk assessment regarding employment, contract/transactional, EHS or litigation matters to Sysco Corporation and its sites covering all aspects of the business located in certain geographic areas globally. Serves as the primary legal support for a variety of business professionals, such as senior management, company executives and/or leadership of key GSC functions. Manages and selects outside counsel and develops strategies for litigation and commercial contracts at various sites globally. Directs pre-litigation employment matters and responses to complaints received by opposing counsel and government agencies. Partners with leadership of key GSC functions, including Corporate Claims, Human Resources, Sales, Operations, Finance, Merchandising, Safety and Compliance, to support key initiatives for the overall organization.\nResponsibilities:\nProvide daily advice and counsel regarding legal compliance and risk avoidance\n\nDirect, manage, and develop strategy for respective legal matters\n\nManage outside counsel fees and costs to maintain efficiency\n\nDirect, manage, and develop strategy for responses to complaints filed with government agencies and other pre-litigation matters\n\nParticipate in cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance and to support the development and execution of enterprise-wide initiatives, policies and strategies\n\nPrepare materials and conduct training for internal business clients regarding strategic initiatives and other relevant legal matters\n\n Education/Experience:\nJuris Doctorate from an accredited law school\n\n5+ years legal experience, including practicing and litigating at either a law firm or a company (can be a combination)\n\nSkills:\nExcellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice to senior executives and other Sysco senior leaders; creative problem solving; aptitude to work collaboratively; ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously; strong leadership skills and client service orientation. Ability to manage high volume of employment, litigation and contract matters.\n\nLanguage Skills:\nAbove-average command of English, both oral and written, and excellent grammar, proofreading, punctuation and spelling skills.\n\nMathematical Skills:\nAbove-average arithmetical skills.\n\nPhysical Demands:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
