The Sr Software Developer - DevOps (India) is the senior technical anchor of the India DevOps engineering team. This role carries the full scope of the Software Developer - DevOps (JD5) - CI/CD, platform tooling, automation, and AI agent development across the PMT portfolio - with additional responsibility for technical mentorship, shift leadership, and setting the DevOps engineering standard for the India team.
This engineer is the India-side counterpart to the US DevOps engineers (JD11). Where the standard-tier DevOps engineers execute the platform build, the Sr engineer shapes it - making the critical architecture calls on the India side, reviewing peers' work, owning the hardest platform incidents, and partnering most closely with the Domain Architect and US engineers on cross-cutting decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior technical authority and escalation point for complex platform and DevOps incidents during the IST shift.
- Mentor and develop the India DevOps engineers through code review, pairing, and design feedback.
- Drive platform quality standards: set patterns, identify gaps, and ensure the India DevOps team's output meets the same bar as the US team.
- Lead the India DevOps team's AI agent roadmap - identify highest-value workflow automation opportunities, prototype agents, and establish the patterns the team follows.
- Partner with the Domain Architect on tooling selection and platform architecture decisions affecting the India team.
- Contribute to hiring and participate in technical interviews for India DevOps and SRE candidates.
- Represent the India DevOps perspective in cross-team architecture and design reviews with US partners.
Requirements:
- 6-9 years of software engineering experience with deep DevOps / platform engineering expertise.
- Production experience owning CI/CD platforms, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code at scale.
- Demonstrated technical leadership: you have led platform engineering work, driven architectural decisions, and influenced engineering practices across a team.
- Strong cloud infrastructure depth (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - IAM, networking, observability, cost governance.
- Track record of measurable toil reduction through automation, AI agents, and platform tooling investment.
- Excellent written communication; comfortable authoring architecture decision records, technical standards, and cross-team design docs.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) to build, operate, and improve engineering workflows - and the ability to lead others in doing the same.
Good to Have:
- AI and agent tooling: Proficient in AI coding/automation assistants (Claude, Copilot, or equivalent).
- Able to design, build, and deploy AI agents as first-class platform components; set team standards for agent architecture and quality; and lead AI tooling adoption across the India DevOps team.
- Expected to be the India team's AI engineering anchor.
- Deep application development proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js and Java; strong command of Nest JS for backend service design.
- Able to architect, build, and lead code review across application and platform layers - not just infrastructure.
- Cloud platform depth: AWS required, Azure a plus.
- Expert-level command of core services - compute, IAM, networking, serverless, managed databases, and cost governance.
- Familiar with AWS-native DevOps tooling and multi-account architecture patterns.
- CI/CD pipeline ownership at scale (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Infrastructure-as-code depth: Terraform required; Pulumi or AWS CDK a plus.
- Containerization and orchestration: Kubernetes (CKA preferred) and Docker.
- Observability and instrumentation leadership: Splunk and Grafana for operational visibility; OpenTelemetry for application-level instrumentation; able to own end-to-end observability strategy and set the standard for the India team.
- Code management leadership: Git branching strategy ownership, PR review standards, release management, and code quality gate design. Sets the bar for the India DevOps team's engineering practices.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell for production automation.
- Secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or similar).
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience building internal developer platforms or paved-path tooling at scale.
- Experience leading a DevOps or platform engineering buildout, greenfield program.
