At TAL, data helps us better understand and support the people we protect. As a Data Engineer, you’ll play an important role in strengthening the trusted data foundations that enable smarter decisions, better customer experiences and future-ready digital services. Working within our Data Engineering team, you’ll help connect information across the organisation in ways that are reliable, scalable and meaningful, supporting TAL’s broader ambition to use data responsibly to deliver better outcomes for customers, partners and our people. This is an opportunity to contribute to work that matters, helping transform complex information into trusted insight that supports our purpose of protecting Australians when they need it most.

In this role you will:

• Build reliable data pipelines that enable trusted reporting, analytics, operational and AI-enabled outcomes.
• Develop reusable data assets that improve consistency, reduce duplication and accelerate delivery across TAL.
• Modernise legacy data processes into secure, scalable and maintainable cloud-based solutions.
• Embed quality, lineage and governance controls to strengthen trust, transparency and data risk management.
• Optimise data workflows for performance, reliability, cost efficiency and operational resilience.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver practical, reusable solutions that meet business and customer needs.

• Bring experience in data engineering, software engineering or analytics engineering within a complex environment.
• Build and support data pipelines, transformations and curated datasets for reporting, analytics or operational use.
• Work confidently with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar technologies.
• Use SQL and relevant tools such as Python or Spark to deliver reliable, production-ready data solutions.
• Apply sound knowledge of data quality, governance, privacy, security and supportability practices.
• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in IT, computer science, software engineering, data engineering or a related field; relevant certifications are desirable.
