QA Automation Lead – Selenium / Playwright

Our client is an established software engineering and IT services company in Colombo. It delivers web, API and platform projects for US and global clients.

About the role

Hands-on: you own the automation framework and keep coding.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain scalable automation frameworks for web, API and backend testing
• Write and run automated functional, regression, integration and end-to-end suites
• Automate API tests (Postman, REST Assured) and validate backend data with SQL
• Plug test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for continuous testing
• Analyse failures, raise defects and work with developers to close them
• Mentor QA engineers and set automation standards and quality metrics

What you need

• 5+ years in software QA or test automation (8+ for Test Lead roles)
• Strong hands-on Selenium WebDriver with Java and Playwright
• Solid OOP and coding in Java, TypeScript, Python or C#
• API testing with Postman and/or REST Assured; good grasp of REST and microservices
• Strong SQL for data and integrity checks
• Git/GitHub, and experience in Agile/Scrum teams

Nice to have

• TestNG, Cypress or Appium; AI-assisted testing (Copilot, Claude)
• Docker-based test execution; Kubernetes, AWS
• ISTQB or similar certification
• E-commerce or subscription systems
