This is an opportunity to shape a product at the forefront of AI security and make a significant impact at a company dedicated to transforming how organizations manage and secure their technology environments.\nEssential Job Functions\nContribute to the design and development of high-scale, distributed backend systems that give customers visibility into and control over agentic AI across their environments\nBuild services and integrations using LLM APIs, tool-calling frameworks, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and design retrieval (RAG) and data pipelines that support AI-driven capabilities\nUse AI coding assistants and agent tooling effectively in day-to-day development, and review, refactor, and debug AI-generated code with sound judgment\nBuild and maintain Tanium's products alongside an agile development team\nDesign, develop and test new product ideas from the ground up while working with product management for feedback and input\nWork on small teams that tackle big challenges in common components like a common data service tasked with unifying and consolidating endpoint data across the entire ecosystem, handling time series data that drive dashboarding and reporting, and exposing data externally through GraphQL enabling partners (like Salesforce) to easily integrate\nDelivering higher level services enabled by our core services that directly enable our products and focus on everything from security to operations to auditingMinimum & Preferred Job Qualifications\n\nEducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience\n\nExperience3+ years of industry software engineering experience\nExperience designing and building high-impact, high-performance, scalable, observable, and maintainable backend services and APIs\nExperience building and shipping AI-powered products or agents at scale, including LLM integrations and tool-calling\nHands-on experience building a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server or integration that ran in a production environment\nExperience building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and the data pipelines that support it\nExperience building backend services and enterprise web applications that serve large user bases (for example, millions of users)\nKnowledge of at least one of Golang (preferred), Node.js, Python, Ruby, or Rust\nExperience with React, Typescript, Javascript, and other front-end technologies and frameworks\nAbility to work with relational databases such as Postgres, SQL, or MySQL\nExperience with HTTP API design and development\nExperience with modern software engineering and automation tools such as Git and Jenkins\nPreferred: Foundation in security principles, such as secure design, authentication and authorization, and threat modeling\n\nOtherDemonstrates sound judgment for balancing between rapid development, long-term code maintainability and supportability\nBelieves in the power of and the need for writing automated tests as part of development\nExperienced debugger who can put out fires under pressure when things go wrong in production environments\nHas knowledge of a variety of modern software frameworks (server side & browser side) and the versatility to learn new tools\nAbility to prompt AI coding tools effectively and to read, understand, refactor, and debug the resulting code, regardless of language\n\nAbout Tanium \nTanium is the Autonomous IT company.
