We kindly ask applicants outside Japan to refrain from applying at this time.\nRole Overview\nWe are hiring a Senior Manager, Data Engineering to lead both backend data platform engineering and functional data ownership for Japan and Korea. This role is hands-on and senior-individual-contributor focused, with strong ownership of data platforms, pipelines, and in-house business-critical data products.\nThe role requires deep technical expertise, strong data-flow understanding, and the ability to work closely with business, offshore team/vendors, and global teams in both English and Japanese.\nKey Responsibilities\nBackend & Platform Engineering\nDesign, build, and operate scalable, cloud-native data platforms. Eg AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake.\nDevelop and maintain reliable, automated data pipelines supporting analytics and business operations.\nOwn development, test, and production environments for the Japan and Korea data platform.\nLead CI/CD, source control, configuration management, and deployment for data services.\nDefine and promote data engineering best practices, architecture standards, Data modeling and security principles.\nImplement loosely coupled, scalable architectures using Infrastructure-as-Code principles.\nFunctional Engineering & Data Product Ownership\nAct as functional owner for inhouse data products, ensuring data quality, usability, and business relevance.\nAnalyze complex data flows and lead root-cause investigation for data issues.\nTranslate business requirements into robust data models and analytics-ready datasets.\nPartner closely with business analysts, marketing analytics, product owners, and downstream analytics teams.\nCollaboration & Communication\nWork effectively with local and global engineering teams, vendors, and business stakeholders including leading off-shore team.\nCommunicate technical concepts, issues, and solutions clearly in English and Japanese.\nSupport cross-team alignment and stable operations of data platforms in Japan and Korea.\nCore Technical Requirements\n6+ years od Data Engineering Experience\nStrong ANSI SQL skills (DDL, DML, DCL).\nHands-on experience with cloud based data services (e.g., Glue, Athena, EMR for AWS) .\nExperience with big-data frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Presto, HBase, or Phoenix.\nStrong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.\nSolid understanding of distributed systems, data structures, and performance optimization.\nExperience with Git-based source control and CI/CD tools.\nFamiliarity with workflow schedulers such as Airflow or TIDAL.\nLanguage - Business level of English, Conversational or above Japanese (80% of the position will be in English, 20% will be in Japanese)\nNice to Have\nJava/J2EE, Spring, RESTful services, or microservices experience.\nExposure to NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Cassandra, MongoDB) and Linux OS.\nExperience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other IaC tools.\nExperience supporting analytics dashboards or visualization tools.\nKnowledge of build tools such as Maven, Gradle, or Jenkins.\nQualifications & Attributes\nStrong problem-solving skills with high ownership and attention to detail.\nProactive, self-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to bridge technical depth with business context.\nRelevant cloud or data certifications are a plus.\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field preferred.\n Our Competencies for All Employees\nCourage: Doesn’t hold back anything that needs to be said;
