This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nNone\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nComplete state apprenticeship requirements surround classroom and on-the-job training to learn how to properly and safely perform daily mechanic tasks.\nAssist mechanics with lifting and maneuvering heavy parts and components and other vehicle maintenance tasks as assigned.\nDiagnose, examine and investigate vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors and other vehicle components.\nDetermine proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment and component replacement.\nMaintains, adjusts and/or repairs all bus systems, components, and parts including hydraulic, brakes, and front ends to ensure the operational fitness of coaches.\nDisassembles simple components and clean parts for reassembly.\nPerforms minor body repair.\nRequest parts and tools for mechanics as needed.\nCheck and adjust fluid levels as needed.\nClean shop floors, driveways, tools, and equipment.\nOperate buses (move buses into shop areas and around property for repair).\nOperates company truck to make road repairs.\nComplete work orders and other documents legibly and accurately. \nFollow established safety procedures and techniques in performing tasks.\nOperate tools and machinery relating to bus repair.\nComply to company policies and procedures.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\nMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:\nHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent. \nHold or obtain a valid KY or IN driver’s license and CDL permit; Commercial Driver’s License experience preferred.\nMust be able to read, follow instructions and have the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally).\nPass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate TARC vehicles.\nSuccessful performance on pre-employment tests.\nNote: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:\nMust be able to successfully pass a DOT Physical including bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching.\nMust be able to lift up to 75 pounds.\nAbility to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes and tugs used for pulling disabled buses.\nCommunicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.\nAbility to safety and properly operate a variety of hand and power tools.\nAbility to user computerized diagnostic equipment.\nMust have the ability to safely and properly operate a coach or other vehicle. \nWORKING CONDITIONS:\nIncumbents generally work in a noisy environment with adequate light and temperature. There may be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, and poor ventilation; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
