Learn more about Target here.\nThe Labor Engineering team helps Target align workload, payroll, staffing, and scheduling to deliver the right guest and team member experience while supporting sales, strategic priorities, and expense goals. Through engineered standards, workload forecasting, and labor modeling, the team helps stores deploy labor effectively and manage capacity across the business.\nThe team develops and continuously improves the methodologies used to forecast future workload, inform payroll planning, and support workforce planning. Labor Engineering also provides key inputs into staffing models that help determine appropriate staffing levels, support more stable team member hours, and improve store productivity.\nBy combining operational insights, data analysis, engineering principles, and cross-functional partnership, Labor Engineering helps Target simplify execution, improve efficiency, and support the evolving needs of stores.\nAs a Senior Labor Engineer in Store Operations, you will contribute to the development and improvement of labor capabilities that support store productivity, workload planning, and operational excellence. You will apply analytical, engineering, and problem-solving skills to maintain labor methodologies, improve operational processes, and support strategic initiatives.\nYou will partner with Store Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Product, Technology, and other teams to translate operational challenges into practical, scalable solutions. Success in this role requires strong communication, collaboration, and the ability to turn complex analysis into clear insights and recommendations.\nCore Responsibilities\nDevelop, maintain, and continuously improve engineered labor standards and labor model inputs for assigned business areas.\nUse operational data, engineered standards, and analytical methods to forecast workload, inform labor planning decisions, and support store capacity management.\nSupport the design, testing, validation, and implementation of process improvements that drive productivity, simplify execution, and improve team member and guest experiences.\nIdentify opportunities for operational improvement through analysis, modeling, field observation, and structured problem solving.\nPlan and participate in pilots, validations, and field tests to measure the impact of process and labor model changes.\nCommunicate complex analyses, labor methodologies, and recommendations clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.\nTranslate data and operational insights into compelling, actionable stories that help partners understand implications, make decisions, and take action.\nAdapt written, verbal, and presentation communication based on the audience, business context, and decision needed.\nBuild alignment across cross-functional teams through effective collaboration, facilitation, and stakeholder management.\nPartner with Store Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Product, Technology, and other teams to support strategic initiatives.\nFollow governance and quality-control practices that help keep labor methodologies accurate, scalable, and aligned with changing business needs.\nCore responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business need.\n About You\nFour-year college degree or equivalent experience.\n2-5 years of experience in an operational environment; retail, supply chain, industrial engineering, workforce management, analytics, or related experience preferred.\nStrong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.\nExperience using data analysis techniques and tools to inform business decisions.\nStrong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and tailor messages for different audiences.\nDemonstrated ability to tell a clear story with data and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.\nAbility to build relationships, collaborate effectively, and influence partners and peers.\nAbility to plan and manage projects effectively.\nAbility to manage and adjust multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to identify, define, and resolve ambiguous problems, including problems without clear precedent.\nCuriosity, sound judgment, and a continuous-improvement mindset.\nThis position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as \"Flex for Your Day\") work arrangement based on Target's needs.
