JD Overview
We are building a new full-stack application from the ground up, hosted entirely on China-based servers in compliance with local data residency and government regulations. We’re looking for a senior engineer to lead architecture and hands-on development for this greenfield build.
Responsibilities
• Design and build a full-stack web application from scratch — architecture, backend services, frontend, and database schema
• Lead technical decisions on framework structure, API design, and deployment pipeline
• Ensure the application and its data storage comply with China’s data residency requirements
• Set up and manage containerized deployment (Docker/Kubernetes) on China-based cloud/server infrastructure
• Mentor the mid-level engineer on the team; review code and enforce engineering standards
• Collaborate with legal/compliance stakeholders to implement required data-handling and security controls
Required Skills
• 5–7 years professional full-stack development experience
• Strong backend experience in one or more of the following stacks:
o PHP (Laravel, Symfony)
o Ruby (Ruby on Rails)
o Python (Django, FastAPI, or Flask)
o Java (Spring Boot)
o Node.js (Express, NestJS)
• Frontend experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks: Vue.js, React, Angular, or Next.js/Nuxt.js
• Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI frameworks (Tailwind, Bootstrap, Material UI, or similar)
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and caching layers (Redis)
• Experience with RESTful and/or GraphQL API design
• Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes) experience
• Experience deploying and operating on China-based cloud providers (Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Huawei Cloud, or similar)
• Exposure to cloud-native deployment pipelines (CI/CD, GitOps)
• Familiarity with China’s regulatory landscape for data hosting: ICP filing, PIPL (Personal Information Protection Law), and MLPS (Multi-Level Protection Scheme) classification
• Fluent working proficiency in English (for cross-team collaboration)
Nice to Have
• Experience building systems for enterprise or government-facing compliance requirements
• Prior experience migrating or rebuilding an application for a new regulatory environment
• Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
