The Tata Group is an Indian conglomerate founded in 1868 that spans software services, steel, vehicles, chemicals, power, hospitality, aviation, consumer goods and retail through around thirty listed companies. Its ownership is unusual: the holding company Tata Sons is majority owned by philanthropic trusts, so most of the dividends it receives fund charitable endowments rather than a family fortune. Headquartered in Mumbai, the group includes Tata Consultancy Services, one of the largest technology services firms in the world, alongside Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Air India and Taj Hotels.
