Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Thermal Design Engineer role.\nTHE ROLE\nWe are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer - Thermal Systems to support the design and development of automotive thermal system components from concept through to production release. The role will be responsible for delivering robust, manufacturable and cost-effective designs, working closely with Thermal Systems, CAE, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Programme, Quality and other engineering functions. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of their assigned components, ensuring that design, packaging, interfaces, manufacturability, timing and technical requirements are managed throughout the product development lifecycle. A strong understanding of automotive development processes and component lead times is essential, with the ability to identify timing risks early and plan design activities accordingly.\nAREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES\nSystem Design\nDesign and develop automotive cooling system components and assembliesDevelop concepts from initial requirements through to detailed design and production releaseTranslate system-level thermal and packaging requirements into robust component designsConsider:· Packaging and installation constraints | Working knowledge\n· Thermal performance | Working knowledge\n· Structural integrity | Strong working knowledge\n· Vibration and durability | Strong working knowledge\n· Serviceability | Strong working knowledge\n· Manufacturing feasibility | Strong working knowledge\n· Cost and weight | Working knowledge\nComponent and vehicle interfaces | Strong working knowledge\nEnsure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, specifications and programme requirements\nSupport design reviews and technical gateways\nCAD / Digital Engineering\nCreate and maintain high-quality 3D CAD models and assemblies using CATIA V6 / 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)\nProduce and maintain engineering drawings, specifications and associated design documentation\nManage design data in accordance with company and programme configuration-management processes\nApply appropriate GD&T, datum strategies and tolerance principles\nEnsure CAD models are correctly structured and suitable for downstream engineering, manufacturing and supplier activities \nSystem Components\nExperience with relevant components such as the following is desirable:\nRadiators / Heat Exchangers\nPipes and hosesCoolant distribution / manifold systems / e-Pumps & ValvesExpansion tanksCooling modulesFans and fan shroudsHVAC e-CompressorBrackets, supports and associated hardwareDesign for Manufacture\nDevelop designs suitable for prototype & series productionWork closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure designs are feasible within the intended manufacturing processIdentify manufacturing constraints early in the design processIncorporate supplier feedback into design decisionsApply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principlesUnderstand the implications of manufacturing processes such as Injection moulding, Aluminium casting, Machining, Welding/brazing etc..Automotive Lead-Time Awareness\nThe Senior Design Engineer is expected to understand the relationship between design maturity, supplier lead time, tooling and programme timing They should proactively highlight situations where design maturity, drawing release or engineering changes could impact supplier tooling, prototype delivery, vehicle builds or production timing.\nThey should proactively highlight situations where design maturity, drawing release or engineering changes could impact supplier tooling, prototype delivery, vehicle builds or production timing.\nEXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE\nDegree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related disciplineSignificant experience in automotive design engineering, in a multi-disciplinary OEM or Tier 1 environmentStrong experience with CATIA V6 / 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)Good understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing principleExperience working with suppliers and manufacturing teamsStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsGood written and verbal communication skillsGood working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Outlookf you are passionate about innovation and want to join a global engineering company, this is the place for you.\nTata Technologies: Engineering a better world.\nWe thank all applicants for their interest.
