The Group Leader will report to the Buildings Department Manager. The position will involve working in our Barrie office for a minimum of 4 days per week.\nThe successful candidate will be a progressive, collaborative, and energetic professional engineer with a strong background in structural engineering primarily working in a consulting engineering environment. We are an employee-owned company with over 200 staff, including over 70 shareholders.\nKey Responsibilities\nDevelop and execute quarterly business plans; set group goals and targets; regularly communicate progress with the Department Manager.\nManage, mentor, train, and inspire group members; conduct performance reviews; support career development and team growth initiatives.\nOversee structural engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality, timelines, and budgets are met.\nMonitor staff utilization, project budgets, schedules, and profitability; assign and coordinate workloads within the group.\nCommunicate with other Group Leaders and internal teams to share resources, support business development, and align on technical standards and practices.\nBuild and maintain strong client relationships to generate repeat and new business opportunities.\nIdentify new project opportunities, lead proposal development, and participate in marketing and promotional activities for the department and company.\nServe as a Senior Engineer on projects, providing technical oversight, quality control reviews, and design leadership.\nEnsure a safe and healthy work environment in alignment with the OHSA and company safety policies.\nCoordinate with human resources on staff issues, training, and adherence to company policies; lead group meetings and handle internal administrative tasks.\nUndertake structural engineering projects, complete technical work, and be responsible for the successful execution of projects.\nConduct quality control reviews of structural engineering work and provide feedback to project managers and engineers.\n\nKey Position Requirements\nP.Eng. in the province of Ontario, registered with PEO\nMinimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in the consulting environment\nTechnical leader in structural engineering\nProficiency with the design, analysis, and assessment of municipal, institutional, commercial, industrial, and residential buildings\nExperience working on engineering projects involving wood, timber, steel, concrete, and masonry materials\nExperience working on a variety of large and small engineering project sizes\nStrong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (Part 4 and Part 9)\nDemonstrated abilities as a team leader, responsible for managing a team of support staff\nUndertake business development with a desire to do more\nUnderstanding of business metrics and company policies and can work with staff to achieve desired outcomes\nDemonstrated high level of commitment\nStrong, relevant design and project management experience\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills\nExcellent technical and analytical skills\nStrong knowledge of
