The role requires someone who can move comfortably between interpreting complex legal requirements, advising senior stakeholders and implementing the processes and controls needed to manage privacy risk effectively.\nThe business already has foundational privacy policies, processes and documentation in place. The priority is to build on these foundations, understand the underlying technology and data flows, identify gaps and ensure the privacy framework is practical, proportionate and scalable.\nWorking closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Marketing and other business functions, you will help embed privacy into day-to-day operations and support the responsible use of data, including emerging technologies and new data-driven initiatives.\nKey responsibilities\nOwn and develop the organisation’s privacy governance framework, including policies, RoPAs, risk registers, retention schedules and associated controls.\nAct as the principal in-house legal advisor on privacy and data protection, providing practical, risk-based guidance to stakeholders and senior management.\nWork closely with technology, product and data teams to understand data flows, assess risks and embed Privacy by Design.\nManage core privacy compliance activities, including DPIAs, LIAs, data-sharing assessments and individual rights requests.\nLead the privacy aspects of data incidents and breaches, including regulatory assessments, notification obligations and remediation.\nAdvise on data-sharing arrangements, international transfers, data protection agreements and the responsible use of personal data.\nSupport data-driven initiatives, including advertising technology, profiling, AI and emerging technologies.\nDevelop privacy awareness and training, ensuring legal requirements translate into practical business processes.\nMonitor regulatory developments and support privacy matters arising from corporate transactions and international operations.\nAbout you\nQualified lawyer with significant experience advising on UK and European privacy and data protection law.\nStrong in-house experience, combining legal advisory work with the development and operation of privacy programmes.\nComfortable taking ownership of privacy matters independently, from complex legal analysis through to practical implementation.\nTechnically confident, with the ability to understand data flows, engage with engineering and product teams, and translate technical issues into clear legal advice.\nExperience managing privacy governance, DPIAs, RoPAs, data rights, incident response and associated compliance processes.\nStrong commercial judgement, communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.\nExperience working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and technologies evolve quickly.\nExperience in technology platforms, AdTech, AI governance or international privacy matters would be advantageous. Additional privacy qualifications, such as CIPP/E or CIPM, are also relevant.\nThe role\nThis position would suit a privacy lawyer who wants to do more than provide legal advice.
