Connect to what matters.\nThe Opportunity\n\n Reporting to the Manager, Materials & Coatings Engineering, the Materials Engineer will develop and implement strategies to ensure pipeline materials meet TC Energy’s design requirements and technical specifications. This role is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of company standards and specifications, evaluating and auditing manufacturers, and assessing material suitability for use across our pipeline systems. Leveraging technical expertise, the Materials Engineer will also contribute to research initiatives and support TC Energy’s participation in the development of international industry codes and standards.\nWhat you’ll do:\n\nCollaboration: Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Projects, and other Engineering teams to ensure the specification and manufacture of high-quality materials\nProject Support: Through specifications and standards, identify and select appropriate materials based on project requirements, ensuring they meet quality, cost and performance standards\nSupplier Management: Evaluate and manage the technical capabilities of suppliers to ensure they provide materials that meet the required specifications and quality standards\nQuality Assurance: Implement engineering quality control processes and methods to ensure materials meet the necessary standards and specifications. Perform site inspections and audits when required \nTechnical Support: Provide technical support to other teams, including troubleshooting material-related issues, performing materials RCAs, and recommending solutions\nDocumentation: Maintain accurate records of material reviews, test results, and quality control processes records\nContinuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance material quality and efficiency\nProvide oversight to projects ensuring that designs are fit-for-purpose, demonstrated to meet expectations for safety, cost, quality, and performance, and conform with regulations, industry standards and company specifications \nServe as Technical Lead to assigned working teams or special initiatives \nProvide review oversight, coaching and mentorship to junior members of the team when appropriate\nMinimum Qualifications:\n\nBachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree\nRegistered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) \nAbility to work and travel in North America and to manufacturing locations overseas\nProven knowledge of natural gas pipelines and station design codes and standards (CSA Z662, CSA Z245.xx, ASME B31, API 5L, API 6D etc.)\n6+ years of experience in materials evaluation and selection, manufacturer evaluation, audit and inspection\nPreferred Qualifications:\n10 - 12 years of relevant experience\nExperience with asset life cycle management \nProven Management of Change process experience and use of evaluation practices and tools required to successfully complete a change \nProficient with process incident root-cause analyses and addressing corrective actions \nProficient in facture and materials testing analysis, \nAbility to think analytically, perform analysis, and support recommendations\nProven experience in materials engineering, quality assurance, or a related role\nAbility to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously\nStrong knowledge of material properties, testing methods, and quality control processes\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills\nThis position requires candidates to:\nHave and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review \nTravel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or audits (estimated up to 15% of work schedule) \nTo remain competitive, support our high-performance culture and allow for more flexibility in the way we work, we offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for our eligible office-based workforce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. #LI-Hybrid\nAbout our business\nWe are a leader in North American energy infrastructure, spanning Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
