Job Description:

TD Private Wealth Management takes a sophisticated and holistic goals discovery approach to wealth planning and protection to provide highly personalized advice, solutions and service to clients.

Wealth Advisory Services delivers strategies for high-net-worth clients in the areas of tax, philanthropic, not-for-profit, business succession and estate planning. Our team of specialists works with other TD advisors and partners to integrate these strategies into overarching wealth management plans that make valuable contributions and help clients achieve their goals. The Business Succession Advisor is responsible for providing specialized business owner and succession planning advice within an assigned Private Wealth Management territory. The role supports high-net-worth business owners as they evaluate, prepare for, and implement the transition of their businesses, while helping to strengthen client relationships and grow TD Wealth and Commercial Banking opportunities.

As a recognized specialist in tax, business owner, and succession planning, the Business Succession Advisor works closely with Investment Advisors, Relationship Managers, and internal and external professionals to develop comprehensive wealth planning strategies. This includes coordinating expertise in areas such as tax, estate planning, business valuation, corporate finance, and law.

Business succession planning for high-net-worth clients focuses on:

  • Preparing business owners for the transition or succession of their business
  • Integrating business, personal, tax, estate, and wealth planning considerations
  • Identifying appropriate ownership and transition strategies
  • Supporting family, management, or third-party succession
  • Protecting and preserving personal and business wealth
  • Connecting clients with specialized professional advice where required

Job Duties Include:

  • Delivering a legendary Wealth Client Experience by placing clients at the canter of every interaction
  • Providing comprehensive advice across all aspects of business owner, succession, and transition planning
  • Conducting an in-depth discovery of each client’s personal, family, business, and financial objectives
  • Preparing customized wealth plans based on information gathered directly from clients, Investment Advisors, and Relationship Managers
  • Researching complex business planning matters to ensure relevant tax, estate, and succession considerations are addressed
  • Participating in client meetings and presenting planning recommendations in a clear, practical, and engaging manner
  • Delivering educational seminars and presentations for clients, advisors, and business partners
  • Working collaboratively with TD Wealth, Commercial Banking, and other TD partners to provide integrated advice and solutions
  • Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to complementary TD products, services, and specialists
  • Supporting Investment Advisors and Relationship Managers with business development, opportunity identification, and client retention
  • Building and maintaining an external network of professionals, including accountants, lawyers, valuation specialists, and corporate finance advisors
  • Ensuring plans and supporting documentation accurately reflect client objectives and comply with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Keeping current on emerging tax, estate, business planning, and regulatory developments
  • Tracking planning outcomes, client opportunities, referrals, and new business generated
  • Sharing technical knowledge and best practices through mentoring, informal learning, and educational sessions
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment
  • Participating in the local community and supporting TD charitable and community initiatives
  • Acting as a brand ambassador for Wealth Advisory Services and TD, both internally and externally

Experience and Education:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Advanced professional designation or degree, such as CPA/CA, LLB, LLM, or JD
  • Certified Financial Planner designation, such as CFP or Pl. Fin., is an asset
  • Completion of the In-Depth Tax Program, Levels 1 and 2, or a Master of Taxation is required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant practical experience
  • Advanced tax knowledge and expertise across business succession and transition planning
  • Strong knowledge of business owner, corporate, estate, and wealth planning considerations
  • Experience advising high-net-worth clients, business owners, senior leaders, or professional advisors
  • Ability to assess complex information and translate it into clear, actionable planning recommendations
  • Strong passion for delivering a first-class client planning experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with clients, advisors, business partners, and external professionals
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, time management, and organizational skills
  • A proactive, results-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Sound judgment and the ability to identify, manage, and escalate risk appropriately
