TD Bank Group is a Canadian bank founded in 1855 whose modern form dates from the 1955 merger of the Bank of Toronto and the Dominion Bank. It runs one of the two largest retail banking networks in Canada, an unusually large American retail franchise built along the east coast under the TD Bank brand, a wholesale bank through TD Securities and a direct investing business, and it held a substantial stake in Charles Schwab for several years. Headquartered in Toronto and listed in Toronto and New York, it has spent recent years rebuilding its anti-money-laundering controls after United States regulatory penalties.
