Job Description - What You'll Do

Global Technology & Solutions, Servicing Platform's team is looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer to support our Retail Branch Service applications.

The primary accountabilities for this position are:

  • Write high-quality, defect-free code; participate in peer code reviews and provide support during testing cycles and post-production deployments.

  • Contribute to design and refinement discussions to deliver scalable, best-in-class solutions.

  • Ensure applications adhere to secure coding standards and are free from common security vulnerabilities.

  • Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team, supporting and learning from other team members.

  • Build, test, and validate applications rigorously to ensure reliability and performance.

  • Adhere to TD brand, engineering, and coding standards, demonstrating consistent use of best practices.

  • Participate in daily team meetings with business and technical partners to clarify requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Provide technical support during production deployments and defect triage activities.

  • Translate business requirements and research findings into effective delivery solutions that meet performance objectives.

  • Ensure delivery timelines and functional requirements are met, resulting in high-quality, defect-free outcomes.Proactively identify issues, improve processes, and communicate risks or impacts to stakeholders as needed.

  • Contribute to project planning, effort estimation, and status reporting.

  • Follow TD technology delivery practices, standards, and project management disciplines.

  • Create and maintain quality code, ensure defect free programming consistent with standards; provide code maintenance and support during testing cycles and post-production deployment and participate in reviewing peer coding

  • Develop new features and perform unit / component test for new application development initiatives aligned to business needs and in accordance with technology architecture standards

  • Responsible for peer code reviews

  • Work with technology partners to ensure the configuration and custom components meet application requirements and performance goals

  • Analyze the technical requirements to recommend pragmatic and sound engineering specific solutions for own area, may be involved in coding/story estimates

  • Work with other stakeholders, internal technology partners to ensure engineering solutions meet technical direction, requirements, performance, time-to-market and innovation goals

  • Identifying and recommending development / testing solutions / tools in support of Feature / application objectives

  • Document and verify system components, applications, system infrastructure, security, integration, operability and engineering related architecture designs associated with a program or project

  • Participate in quality management reviews, in particular reviews of the designs, prototypes and other requirements work products to ensure they fulfill the requirements

  • Provide technical expertise during Incident management, analyze incident reports and outages, perform impact assessment for incidents and facilitate internal and external communication throughout incident resolution

  • Assist in the development / maintenance of comprehensive processes for prevention of issues and participate in problem determination and timely resolution of incidents applying appropriate quality measures

  • Adhere to standard security coding practices to ensure application is free of most common coding vulnerabilities

  • Ensure technical decisions, technical risks and lessons learned are identified, clearly documented and enhancements are accordingly implemented

  • Understand relationships between work processes and the business and ensure awareness of costs related to own work

  • Deliver effective and efficient solutions that meet key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time, within budget, and adhering to development and quality standards

  • Comply with well-defined enterprise technology delivery practices and standards and project management disciplines - including creation of project documentation of system requirements, estimates of scope and cost

  • Be knowledgeable of practices and procedures within own area of responsibility and keep abreast of emerging trends for own functional area

  • Protect the interests of the organization - identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk activities as necessary

  • Adhere to internal policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines

  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

  • Participate fully as a member of the team, support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest

  • Support the team by continuously enhancing knowledge / expertise in own area and participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit; Support knowledge-sharing across teams and with relevant stakeholders, ensuring knowledge is codified, monitored, tracked and managed

  • Work collaboratively with the team and leadership to proactively identify and resolve issues related to product quality

  • Work collaboratively with the development team to define and validate appropriate user stories, acceptance criteria and definitions of done / ready

  • Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques

  • Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team

  • Keep others informed and up-to-date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities

  • Contribute to the success of the team by willingly assisting others in the completion and performance of work activities; provide training, coaching and/or guidance as appropriate.

  • Contribute to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce

  • Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally

Where You'll Work

You’ll be expected to work primarily onsite at a TD location for meetings, team events and experiences. The hiring manager will provide more information about how this works for their team.

Job Requirements - What You Need to Succeed

  • 3-5 years of experience developing Java applications

  • Experience building and maintaining user interfaces (UI)

  • Experience using Copilot or similar AI-assisted development tools

  • Experience with the Spring Framework (e.g., Spring Boot)

  • Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs

  • Experience with Git and CI/CD in an Agile environment (e.g., Maven, Jenkins)

  • Proficiency with common engineering tools (IDEs/editors, build systems, and code repositories such as Bitbucket)

  • Familiarity with application security concepts and secure coding practices

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure)

  • Experience supporting distributed, thick-client applications

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills; able to work independently

  • Ability to produce clear, thorough, and reusable technical documentation

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment

  • Undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree, or technical diploma/certificate

  • Strong academic background in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, engineering)

Nice to Have

  • Comfortable working in various Agile methodologies

  • C#, C++

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools - Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Salt, etc.

  • Database familiarity, SQL and NoSQL

  • Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocol and TCP/IP networking

  • Knowledge of OAuth2 security

  • Experience working with Accessibility requirements
