You will own the full model lifecycle: problem definition, data strategy, experimentation, evaluation, production launch, and post-launch improvement. Success means reliable production behavior - not benchmark performance or impressive demos alone.\n\nWhat You'll Work On:\n\n- Face, person, object, and sensitive-text detection.\n\n- Object and person tracking.\n\n- Temporal event and action recognition.\n\n- Video quality assessment.\n\n- Evidence extraction and video summarization.\n\n- Multimodal video understanding.\n\nWhat You'll Do:\n\n- Build representative training and evaluation datasets from field footage.\n\n- Design annotation guidelines, sampling strategies, hard-negative mining, and active-learning workflows.\n\n- Define model metrics connected to product outcomes: privacy-critical false negatives, precision and recall, confidence calibration, human-review burden, and performance across operating conditions.\n\n- Establish strong baselines, experiment tracking, model cards, and launch criteria.\n\n- Diagnose failures frame by frame and convert patterns into data, modeling, or product improvements.\n\n- Use production failures and reviewer feedback to improve datasets and models.\n\n- Work with the ML Evaluation engineer to define quality standards and regression tests.\n\n- Work with backend and platform engineers to package, deploy, monitor, and roll back models.\n\n- Communicate model limitations, uncertainty, and trade-offs clearly.\n\nWhat We're Looking For:\n\n- Strong Python and PyTorch experience.\n\n- Experience shipping computer-vision models into production.\n\n- Strong foundation in several areas: object detection and segmentation, OCR, multi-object tracking, action recognition, temporal localization, and video or vision-language models.\n\n- Strong understanding of precision/recall trade-offs, calibration and threshold selection, dataset leakage, label quality, distribution shift, and stratified evaluation.\n\n- Experience building datasets and evaluation systems for messy real-world inputs.\n\n- Ability to independently own ambiguous ML problems from framing through production.\n\n- Strong software-engineering fundamentals.\n\n- Ability to explain complex model behavior to product and operations teams.\n\nSkills\nComputer Vision, Python, PyTorch, Machine Learning","description_format":"text","description_chars":2414,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":6,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-26T14:00:00Z"}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":24,"reasons":["seen:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-27T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/techmatters-technologies-senior-applied-ml-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/techmatters-technologies-senior-applied-ml-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-27T21:19:31Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"assistant","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":910,"day_limit":2000,"remaining_today":1090,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-09-28T00:00:00Z"}}}
