Reporting to the Group HSES Manager, the Specialist partners with site leadership, employees, and contractors to promote compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements and advance a proactive safety culture.\nThe position supports hazard identification, incident prevention and investigation, employee training, contractor and process safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. Through practical field engagement, regulatory coordination, and clear performance reporting, the Specialist helps integrate HS&E considerations into daily operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nSafety Compliance & Regulatory Management\nSupport compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local health, safety, and environmental requirements.\nServe as site host and point of coordination for external auditors and regulatory representatives.\nConduct routine site inspections, compliance audits, and risk assessments; document findings and track required follow-up.\nCoordinate cross-functional focus teams to implement targeted operational safety programs.\nLead the development, assignment, tracking, and closure of corrective actions arising from audits and inspections.\nMaintain accurate safety and environmental records, required reports, and supporting compliance documentation.\nIncident Investigation & Risk Reduction\nLead investigations of workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental events.\nPerform root-cause analyses and develop preventive and corrective actions in collaboration with site teams.\nAnalyze incident trends and recommend practical initiatives to reduce exposure and recurrence.\nCommunicate investigation findings and lessons learned to appropriate stakeholders.\nEmployee Training & Safety Engagement\nCoordinate site safety orientation and recurring compliance training for employees and relevant site personnel.\nFacilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, awareness campaigns, and employee safety engagement activities.\nPromote behavior-based safety and encourage participation in safety committees and programs.\nDevelop and distribute educational materials that support site-specific safety initiatives.\nEnvironmental Management & Sustainability\nSupport environmental permits, regulatory reporting, compliance activities, and sustainability initiatives.\nMonitor waste management, emissions, wastewater, and relevant environmental performance measures.\nHelp implement environmental improvement opportunities and preventive controls.\nInvestigate environmental incidents and track associated corrective actions through completion.\nContractor & Process Safety Oversight\nAdminister contractor safety qualification and onboarding processes.\nMonitor contractors for adherence to site safety requirements and follow up on identified gaps.\nSupport Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, hazard assessments, and related action tracking.\nParticipate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews and operational hazard evaluations.\nContinuous Improvement & Safety Leadership\nAnalyze leading and lagging HS&E indicators to identify risks and improvement opportunities.\nSupport site leadership in defining and tracking annual HS&E objectives and action plans.\nCoordinate continuous improvement activities and monitor completion of initiatives.\nPromote accountability, employee involvement, and proactive risk management across site operations.\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications\nFive (5) or more years of HS&E experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, industrial operations, or a related environment.\nExperience supporting OSHA and EPA compliance, Process Safety Management (PSM), and contractor safety programs.\nAbility to conduct incident investigations, root-cause analyses, hazard assessments, and compliance reviews.\nStrong communication, organization, collaboration, and documentation skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.\nCertified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or comparable professional certification.\nRole Specific Knowledge & Skills\nOSHA, EPA, and applicable safety and environmental compliance practices.\nIncident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and risk reduction.\nContractor safety oversight, PSM support, and Management of Change (MOC) participation.\nEnvironmental permitting, waste management, emissions, wastewater, and reporting.\nTraining facilitation, employee engagement, safety committee support, and awareness programs.\nData analysis, HS&E performance reporting, Microsoft Office, and EHS management systems.\nHigh integrity, attention to detail, sound judgment, resilience, and a proactive, collaborative approach.\nAdditional Information\nLocation: Kansas City, Missouri.
