Construction Safety Specialist - PANYNJ
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Techno is seeking Construction Safety Specialists to support the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) on major capital construction projects. These are on-site, field-based positions responsible for monitoring contractor compliance with applicable safety regulations, identifying hazards, and supporting a safe construction environment. Locations are for Jersey City, NJ and New York, NY.
- Monitor construction activities for compliance with OSHA, NYC DOB, FDNY, and other applicable regulations and safety standards.
- Review contractor Health & Safety Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, drawings, and project documentation.
- Conduct site audits and inspections to identify safety deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor work conditions, equipment, and construction operations for compliance with approved safety programs.
- Prepare daily safety reports documenting observations, findings, photos, deficiencies, and corrective measures.
- Conduct accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with PANYNJ Resident Engineers, safety representatives, contractors, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, including accident investigation and prevention.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Valid NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor (SST) Card.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- Experience with building construction and/or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of OSHA 1926, NYC DOB, FDNY, DOT, DEP, and other applicable safety regulations.
- Knowledge of construction and fire safety standards, including NFPA and NYC/NJ Fire Codes.
- Experience conducting hazard assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and Job Hazard Analyses.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
- CHST or other recognized construction safety certification preferred.
- Experience with OCIP/CCIP projects.
- Previous experience on Port Authority projects is a plus.
COMPENSATION
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $48-$55/hr. This is not a definitive number. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
