The candidate is expected to work collaboratively in a fast-pacedenvironment, apply a continuous improvement mindset, and exert sound professional judgment per Teck’s values and priorities, including health and safety, respect and inclusion, cost-efficiency, and excellence\nKey Responsibilities\nBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures\nPartner and collaborate with Teck’s operations and other departments to provide legal support, guidance and training on employment and human rights matters applicable to Teck’s workforce, including hiring, termination, accommodation scenarios, offer letters, workplace investigations, workplace policies, and employee relations\nAdvise on all aspects of Canadian workplace legislation with a particular focus on applicable BC legislation\nAdvise on all aspects of Canadian privacy law applicable to the company’s Canadian offices and operations and support the handling of data breaches and related investigations\nAdvise on all aspects of pension law applicable to the company’s BC-registered pension plans and other retirement plans, including RISP and top-up plans, and support with the preparation of triennial assessments for the company’s BC-registered pension plans\nSupport with and advise on employment, pension, and privacy matters related to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures\nWork collaboratively with all levels of employees including in-house counsel, HR Professionals, and other internal stakeholders, as well as external counsel\nComplete all tasks involving highly confidential matters with professionalism and discretion\nOther duties, as assigned\nQualifications\nJuris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal qualification is required\nMinimum 5 years' experience as a Canadian legal practitioner is required\nMember of the BC Bar or eligible to be called is required \nExperience in BC employment law and human rights matters is required\nExperience in pension and/or privacy law is an asset\nOutstanding English verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are required\nStrong technical and drafting skills, solutions-oriented legal analytical skills, and sound judgment with respect to risk are required\nDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision\nAbility to communicate with employees at various levels as well as outside parties while maintaining discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism \nPay Range: CAD $150,000 - $185,000 per year\nThe actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.\nWhy Teck\nAt Teck, your work matters-to the world, to our communities and to your future.\nAs a leading Canadian resource company, we focus on responsibly providing the metals essential for global development and the energy transition while caring for the people, communities and land that we love.
