The position leads and supports critical operational and mine expansion initiatives, including wall scaling, Autonomous Operating Zone expansion, and other strategic improvement projects.\nActing as a central point of coordination for Mine Operations, the role supports project execution, workforce planning, process improvement, and departmental alignment. Working closely with frontline supervisors, technical specialists, and cross-functional teams, the Operational Engineer ensures effective communication, documentation control, action tracking, and implementation of operational improvements to support safe, efficient, and reliable mining operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures\nProvide technical guidance, engineering support, and operational analysis to Mine Operations, identifying opportunities to improve safety, productivity, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.\nLead and coordinate operational projects and mine expansion initiatives from planning through implementation, including wall scaling, Autonomous Operating Zone expansion, 5S initiatives, and production trials.\nDevelop business cases, technical justifications, acquisition requisitions, and capital expenditure proposals while supporting departmental financial tracking and reporting.\nCollaborate with Mine Operations leadership, frontline supervisors, Maintenance, Training, and other departments to coordinate resources, align priorities, and support project execution.\nTrack departmental action items, project milestones, purchase requisitions, and operational commitments to ensure accountability and timely completion.\nMaintain Mine Operations knowledge repositories and document control systems, ensuring standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, templates, and reference materials are accurate, current, and accessible.\nLead and support continuous improvement initiatives, including process reviews, implementation planning, Management of Change (MOC), documentation updates, and tracking improvements through completion.\nDevelop and maintain workforce planning tools, including vacation schedules, staffing availability, attendance tracking, and training requirements to support effective crew coverage and operational planning.\nMonitor compliance with supervisor training and competency frameworks, supporting leadership in identifying workforce development needs and maintaining operational standards.\nCoordinate safety documentation, meeting materials, action tracking, and records to support safety initiatives, audits, inspections, and continuous improvement in departmental safety practices.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering\nRegistered, or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration\nMinimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in mining operations, project leadership, or departmental coordination roles.\nExperience in mine engineering, mine operations, or technical services roles, with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related Engineering discipline.\nDemonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional operational initiatives and projects in a dynamic mining environment.\nProven ability to build alignment, influence stakeholders, and coordinate activities across operational and support departments.\nExperience applying engineering methodologies to improve operational performance and business outcomes.\nStrong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver results in a deadline-driven environment.\nProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and collaborative workplace systems.\nPay Range: CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year\nThe actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.\nWorking Conditions:\nLocation: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.\nAccess: This is a drive-in/drive-out role.
