The role provides technical leadership to laboratory personnel, maintains compliance with company and industry standards, and supports manufacturing through effective monitoring and reporting of process performance.\nKey Responsibilities\nStaff Management\nSupervise and support laboratory personnel.\nAllocate daily workloads and establish priorities to ensure departmental objectives are achieved.\nConduct performance reviews and identify training and development requirements.\nProvide hands-on training and technical guidance to laboratory staff.\nPromote a culture of safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and accountability.\nLaboratory Operations & Workflow\nCoordinate laboratory testing schedules to support manufacturing and customer requirements.\nEnsure chemical analysis is carried out accurately, consistently, and within agreed timescales.\nManage laboratory consumables, chemicals, and inventory levels to maintain operational readiness.\nEnsure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating effectively.\nMonitor laboratory workflow and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and throughput.\nQuality Assurance & Compliance\nEnsure all analysis logs, including Minitab and Excel databases, are maintained accurately and kept up to date.\nEnsure microsections for in-process verification and final quality release are produced to the required standards and within required timescales.\nConduct quality control checks to verify the accuracy and integrity of laboratory results.\nSupport compliance with relevant quality, environmental, and safety standards.\nAssist in internal and external audits as required.\nTechnical Support & Reporting\nMonitor laboratory data and identify trends or anomalies that may affect product quality or process performance.\nHighlight processing issues, deviations, and non-conformances to Senior Management and the Continuous Improvement & Lead Process Engineer.\nProduce customer quality assurance reports and technical documentation as required.\nSupport root-cause investigations and corrective action activities relating to manufacturing and quality issues.\nWork closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams to support process control and product quality initiatives.\nQualifications & Experience\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.\nHigher qualifications such as a Master's degree are advantageous but not essential.\nExperience\nMinimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in a laboratory environment.\nPrevious supervisory, leadership, or team management experience preferred.\nExperience within a manufacturing or industrial laboratory environment is highly desirable.\nKnowledge & Skills\nStrong leadership and team management skills.\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.\nEffective verbal and written communication skills.\nExperience using laboratory databases, Minitab, Excel, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).\nStrong understanding of laboratory testing techniques, quality systems, and process control methodologies.\nHigh attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.\nAbility to prioritise workloads and manage multiple activities simultaneously.\nWe offer a range of benefits that include:\nSalary sacrifice-led pension plan that matches employee contributions up to 7%\nEmployee Assistance Programme\nFree life assurance cover at the value of four times basic annual salary\nHoliday purchase scheme which enables employees to purchase an additional week’s worth of annual leave each year\nComprehensive wellbeing programme that supports employees with their physical, mental and financial health, as well as their cultural/environmental wellbeing\nCompetitive employee discounts platform that provides employees with discounts with leading brands/retailers\nInternal reward and recognition scheme linked to internal benefits platform\nCycle to Work scheme\nEnhanced family-friendly benefits\nCompany sick pay\nEquality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee that supports and champions employee diversity\nLocal discounts and offers (e.g. gyms)\nTeledyne and all of our employees are committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards.
