Job Description

Company Overview:

Qioptiq Ltd designs and manufactures market leading Optronic solutions for Defence & Aerospace applications. Key markets include head up displays for commercial airliners, helmet mounted displays for 4th & 5th generation fast jet platforms, night vision for the dismounted soldier, and advanced electro-optics for airborne, maritime and vehicle platforms. An exciting new opportunity has opened at the North Wales site for an Operator.

Job Outline:

Operators are required to follow the process sheets and planning documents, referring to the Senior Technicians, Team Leader and/or Engineer if they identify an issue.

At this level, the job holder will work predominantly on straightforward sub-assemblies, modules, components and equipment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure component quality is acceptable and dimensions correct to ensure its suitability for further processing

  • Select, inspect and prepare all required tooling to ensure the accurate production of components and assemblies

  • Ensure all component preparatory work is carried out correctly to attain precision components efficiently and minimise expensive component losses

  • Select relevant tooling and equipment to attain the most effective method of producing high quality precision components.

  • Ensure that the required quality and operating standards are satisfied throughout each stage of manufacture to achieve optimum quality.

  • Sets up relevant machinery to ensure efficient production of precision components

  • Inspect the components being worked throughout the operation and decide on alterations required to achieve the finished component.

  • Re-work of damaged components when possible is done in order to recoup potential losses.

  • Instruct other employees in the operation of machinery and processes and assists other personnel in the department

  • Ensure that the equipment and work area is cleaned and maintained in accordance with the operator’s maintenance schedule and the required departmental standards

  • Support the business needs by participating in ongoing process/business improvement programmes

Personal Specification:

It is essential that all candidates have the following:

  • GCSE in Maths, English and Science at 4/C or above

  • Understanding of health and safety in the workshop

  • Candidate flexibility may be required

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Mechanical Engineering Qualification or Demonstrated Experience
