Job Description

Summary:

Teledyne Controls develops and supports aerospace electronics and aircraft data solutions for commercial and military operators and aircraft manufacturers worldwide. Our El Segundo operations include manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, quality, and FAA-certified repair capabilities. We value customer success, meaningful innovation, trust, personal responsibility, safety, and continuous improvement.

Opportunity:

We are seeking a hands-on supervisor to lead the daily work of our avionics repair technicians. This role is ideal for an experienced aviation maintenance or avionics professional who is ready to guide a team, improve turnaround and quality, and grow within a regulated aerospace operation. You will partner closely with Repair Station Management, Quality, Engineering, Planning, Customer Support, and Supply Chain.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of repair technicians, setting clear daily priorities and reinforcing safe, compliant work practices.
  • Plan and balance daily workload to meet customer commitments, quality requirements, and turnaround-time goals.
  • Ensure maintenance, repair, modification, inspection, and documentation activities follow applicable FAA requirements, the Repair Station Manual, approved technical data, company procedures, and customer requirements.
  • Confirm that technicians have the training, tools, approved data, parts, and support needed to perform assigned work.
  • Review shop performance using practical measures such as safety, quality, throughput, turnaround time, backlog, rework, and on-time delivery; communicate issues and recovery actions.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution of technical, material, equipment, documentation, and customer issues with the appropriate functions.
  • Support customer and regulatory audits and help close corrective actions in partnership with Quality and Repair Station Management.
  • Maintain accurate records for training, qualifications, attendance, and assigned work.
  • Develop employees through on-the-job coaching, cross-training, timely feedback, and performance discussions.
  • Support interviewing, onboarding, and performance management in accordance with company practices.
  • Improve shop-floor processes through Lean, 5S, standard work, visual management, and employee ideas.
  • Promote a respectful, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.

What You Bring:

  • Four or more years of hands-on aviation maintenance, avionics repair, electronics repair, or closely related experience.
  • Two or more years of team-lead or supervisory experience in a maintenance, repair, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of FAA Part 145 requirements and the discipline required for approved technical data, traceability, training, and maintenance records.
  • Ability to read and apply component maintenance manuals (CMMs), service bulletins, engineering instructions, customer documents, and work instructions.
  • Practical troubleshooting, prioritization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English well enough to perform the responsibilities of the position and apply technical and regulatory information.
  • Appropriate FAA mechanic or repairman certification for the work supervised, or the ability to meet Teledyne Controls and FAA eligibility requirements for the applicable certification before independently performing covered supervisory duties.

Education

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering, aviation maintenance, operations, business, or related field.

Equivalent path: Relevant aviation, avionics, electronics, repair-station, military, technical, or leadership experience may substitute for the preferred degree. Candidates with a technical certificate, associate degree, military training, or substantial directly related experience are encouraged to apply.

Helpful, but Not Required

  • Experience with international repair-station requirements such as EASA, CAAC, or UK CAA Part 145.
  • Experience using SAP, an ERP system, or an electronic repair/maintenance documentation system.
  • Lean, 5S, continuous improvement, or formal leadership training.
  • Experience supporting airline, OEM, customer, or regulatory audits.

Additional Requirements

  • This position is designated as FAA safety sensitive. Employment is subject to the required pre-employment of FAA drug test, and employees in the program are subject to random FAA drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to work on site and support the operating schedule of the Repair Station.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • US Person or US Citizen required.

In our efforts to maintain a safe and drug-free workplace, Teledyne Controls requires that candidates complete a satisfactory background check and pass a drug screen prior to employment.

Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizens, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees).
