Main Focus of the Role
This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Java-based applications, REST APIs, and Microservices. The successful candidate will leverage expertise in Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Kafka, Cloud-Native technologies, and Kubernetes to deliver high-performance, resilient solutions while supporting strategic initiatives across Telstra's engineering landscape.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java applications and Microservices.
Build and enhance REST APIs and API Gateway integrations.
Troubleshoot complex production and application issues.
Develop high-quality code with robust automated testing.
Work with Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases to deliver reliable solutions.
Support CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and cloud-native platforms.
Participate in solution design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making.
Mentor junior developers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes.
Essential Skills
10+ years of Java development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3.x/4.x.
Proven experience building Microservices, REST APIs, and API Gateways.
Strong understanding of JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection, multithreading, and performance tuning.
Experience with Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases (preferably Couchbase).
Hands-on experience with JUnit, automated testing, and SonarQube/code quality tools.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and cloud-native environments.
Strong troubleshooting, technical design, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to support, deploy, and maintain production applications.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.
Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
Desired Skills
Python scripting or development experience.
Experience in telecommunications or large-scale enterprise environments.
Exposure to cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
Australian Citizen preferred.
