The role may require travel based on project needs.\nThe Opportunity\nAs a Design Director, you'll lead a team of approximately 8 designers within our design practice of approximately 90 designers. This is a unique opportunity to lead and directly influence creative direction without becoming removed from the design work itself. You'll work on projects involving emerging technology, including AI and agentic pipelines, and multimodal experience design. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and we particularly encourage women, Black and Indigenous people, LGBTQIA+ people, and people with disabilities to apply.\nResponsibilities\nSet project direction from initial concept through prototyping, including hands-on development of coded prototypes using AI tools.\n\nProvide meaningful guidance on everything from client communication to detailed design execution\n\nHelp designers push out of their comfort zone to create the best work of their careers\n\nConnect design decisions to the client's business outcomes, and identify opportunities to expand the work beyond the current scope\n\nCollaborate and build relationships with cross-disciplinary teams such as product, engineering, content, and project management to orchestrate a smooth project experience for our clients and teams\n\nDefine conceptual and visual direction for well-known brands\n\nValidate your design decisions through user feedback, quantitative insights, and evolving best practices\n\nBuild relationships with clients and navigate your team through challenges that may interfere with executing the best product possible\n\nPresent design work to clients throughout all phases of the process, including executive reviews and new business pitches\n\nBe accountable for the quality of all client-facing work produced by your team\n\nIdentify account risks early and propose plans to address them\n\nContribute to the development of the design practice through critiques, frameworks, and training\n\n80% of your time will be spent working with your fellow designers on mission-critical projects with Fortune 500 clients\n\n20% of your time will be spent managing your team, including regular 1:1s, setting expectations, giving feedback, and managing performance\n\nQualifications\n10+ years in the design industry\n\nYou've shipped products that impact thousands of users or more, and most recently you've been leading design teams\n\nA portfolio is required. It must demonstrate work of the highest quality: taste, high standards of craft, attention to detail, and the outcomes your work achieved for users and the business. Projects you've built yourself, including with AI tools, can be included\n\nSolid understanding of the product development process, from problem definition to working software\n\nYou have strong opinions about visual and user experience design while remaining flexible to new or differing perspectives\n\nHands-on experience building with AI tools such as Claude Code and Figma Make, including working prototypes or code contributed to a product\n\nWorking knowledge of Git, including branches and pull requests\n\nUnderstanding of front-end architecture, including components, state, and design tokens\n\nThis role combines people management with hands-on design and build work. Both are required\n\nExperience connecting design decisions to business outcomes, and explaining trade-offs and commercial impact to senior client stakeholders\n\nExperience presenting complex ideas and design recommendations to senior client stakeholders and team members, including executive reviews and new business pitches\n\nExperience managing the performance of designers, including giving direct feedback and addressing underperformance\n\nYou love working with clients, and they love working with you. You're empathetic to their needs and can bring solutions if problems arise\n\nFluent professional English.
