A key focus for this role will be to work with a transitional team of our legacy on-premises environment to a modern, cloud-native orchestration framework.\nThe ideal candidate is a hybrid of a Systems Administrator and a DevOps Engineer- someone who is comfortable writing Terraform code, troubleshooting networking issues or migrating a legacy scheduler to Airflow and providing support.\nKey Responsibilities\nInfrastructure & Automation\nDesign, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), primarily via Terraform.\n\nDeploy and manage optimized Compute Engine’s, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters, serverless options like Cloud Run or Cloud Functions.\n\nConfigure and maintain Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), including subnetting, firewall rules, hybrid connectivity (VPN/Interconnect), Cloud Load Balancing, Certificate management, and Cloud DNS to ensure secure and efficient traffic flow.\n\nAdminister compute resources across Compute Engine, Cloud Run, and Cloud SQL.\n\nSecurity & Governance\nImplement and assist in the management of a robust security posture using IAM roles and permissions, ensuring the principle of least privilege across all projects.\n\nManage secrets and sensitive configurations using GCP Secret Manager.\n\nManage Cloud Armor for DDoS protection and Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP) for secure administrative access.\n\nUtilize Security Command Center to proactively identify and remediate vulnerabilities.\n\nManage and assist in our ability to ensure the environment meets industry standards such as SOC2.\n\nOperations & Reliability\nEstablish comprehensive monitoring and alerting frameworks using Google Cloud Observability.\n\nDevelop and test automated backup and disaster recovery strategies.\n\nPerform regular system patching and image hardening.\n\nCost Management (FinOps)\nMonitor cloud consumption and implement cost-saving measures (e.g., committed use discounts, right-sizing).\n\nEstablish billing alerts and resource labeling standards.\n\nMigration & Data Orchestration (Priority Focus)\nLegacy Migration: Lead the strategic migration of batch scheduling workloads from on-premises systems to GCP Composer / Apache Airflow.\n\nDAG Development: Design and implement scalable, maintainable Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) to automate complex data pipelines and batch jobs.\n\nWorkflow Optimization: Analyze legacy batch schedules to identify opportunities for parallelization, optimization, and modernization in the cloud.\n\nCutover Planning: Manage the risk and execution of \"cutover\" events, ensuring zero data loss and minimal downtime during the transition from on-prem to GCP.\n\nOperational Requirements & Availability\nCrucial Note on Availability: As this role is critical to the stability of our production environments, the successful candidate must be available for support during both standard business hours and non-business hours. This includes:\nParticipation in an on-call rotation.\n\nAvailability for emergency troubleshooting during weekends or overnight if a critical system failure occurs.\n\nScheduling maintenance windows and migration cutovers during off-peak hours.\n\nQualifications & Skills\nMinimum Requirements:\nExperience: 3-5+ years of professional experience managing production environments in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).\n\nMigration Expertise: 3-5 years of proven experience supporting the migration of on-premises batch scheduling systems to GCP Composer or Apache Airflow.\n\nIaC: Proven expertise with Terraform for provisioning cloud resources.\n\nContainers: Strong proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes (K8s).\n\nOS: Expert-level knowledge of Linux administration.\n\nNetworking: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and Load Balancing.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nCertification: GCP Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Data Engineer.\n\nCI/CD: Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Google Cloud Build.\n\nScripting: Proficiency in Python (specifically for Airflow/Composer DAG development).","description_format":"text","description_chars":4171,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Canada","iso":"CA","kind":"country"},{"name":"Ontario","iso":null,"kind":"city"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)","Call Center Services","AI Training Data & Annotation"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-30T05:55:56Z"}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":1,"expected_fill_days":33,"reasons":["conf:2","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T04:56:44Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":66926,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/telus-digital-gcp-cloud-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/telus-digital-gcp-cloud-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T04:56:44Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4529,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":471,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
