The main activities involve virtualization and infrastructure technologies, VMware, GNU/Linux and IBM AIX.\nThe European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is an intergovernmental organisation created through an international convention agreed by a current total of 30 European Member States.\nEUMETSAT's primary objective is to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites. EUMETSAT is responsible for the launch and operation of the satellites and for delivering satellite data to end-users as well as contributing to the operational monitoring of climate and the detection of global climate changes.\nResponsibilities\nYour tasks will typically include but are not limited to:\nInstallation and configuration of operating systems and other software, including preventive administration: tuning of operating-system parameters to optimise performance, patching and security hardening.\n\nMonitoring of system performance and investigation of hardware/software and performance issues across compute, OS, middleware and platform services, performing root-cause analysis and the relevant corrective actions.\n\nLiaise with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions.\n\nSupport to SW development and maintenance on system-related matters, including implementation and maintenance of scripts and/or procedures for the automated and/or controlled execution of activities.\n\nGeneration and maintenance of technical documentation, configuration baselines, system inventories, as-built documentation and architecture diagrams.\n\nDesign, maintain and improve infrastructure automation strategies (e.g. Terraform, Ansible) and configuration-management frameworks (Ansible, Chef, Puppet) to automate infrastructure provisioning, management and recurring administrative activities.\n\nImplement and maintain enterprise backup and disaster-recovery solutions.\n\nParticipate in daily operations coordination meetings, anomaly review boards and the on-call rotation.\n\nFor day to day activities you shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures. The complex environment requires a wide background of technical knowledge therefore your natural curiosity will help you to resolve complicated situations.\nThis is a full-time position, located either at our customer EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany or delivered off-site from Germany, Czech Republic or Romania, starting in December 2026 onwards. Standby / call-out support and provision of support to critical operations may sometimes be required.\nYour Profile:\nThe ideal candidates have an academic degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent and possess the following skills:\nIBM AIX or GNU/Linux operating system(s);\n\nVirtualization technologies (VMware, NSX, PowerVC);\n\nCloud infrastructure (OpenStack, Kubernetes);\n\nAutomation (ansible) and monitoring (CheckMK, Nagios, ELK Stack, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus);\n\nExperience with 24/7 large computing environments and operational best practices;\n\nExperience administering enterprise hardware platforms (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Cisco UCS, Lenovo ThinkSystem);\n\nUnderstanding of network and storage infrastructure;\n\nProficiency in automation scripting (Bash, Python);\n\nConfiguration management with Ansible, Chef and Puppet;\n\nExperience with enterprise backup and disaster-recovery solutions;\n\nKnowledge of ITIL service management processes (incident, change, problem management);\n\nProven knowledge and at least 5 years hands-on experience with at least 3 of the following is mandatory:\nGNULinux administration using different distributions (SLES, RHEL, Debian);\n\nIBM AIX administration and troubleshooting;\n\nBig scale VMware infrastructures;\n\nCore services management (DNS/LDAP/DHCP/infrastructure);\n\nProven knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is mandatory:\nDefinition, implementation, testing and documentation of end-to-end system changes;\n\nPreparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner;\n\nCommunication and interpersonal skills, being able to effectively communicate and coordinate activities within different teams;\n\nAbility to work autonomously and to perform regular (e.g. weekly) context switch.\n\nFluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory, as English is the working language.
