Depending on project needs, both conventional and Agile methodologies are used, supported by full configuration management and modern quality assurance processes.\nResponsibilities\nAs a Senior Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:\nSoftware Development & Technical Leadership\nOversee the development of space industry ground systems applications across all software lifecycle phases, including:Requirements engineering\nSystem analysis\nSoftware design and implementation\nUnit, integration, and system testing\nMaintenance and operational support\nProduction of technical documentation according to professional software engineering standards and methodologies\n\nDeliver software and documentation according to agreed schedules, budgets, and quality standards\nTake ownership of complex implementation tasks and technical solutions\nLead simulator performance improvement activities (e.g., callgrind analysis)\nMaintain and update project documentation and JIRA tracking\nProduce and maintain software documentation\nSupport and mentor junior software engineers\nProject & Customer Coordination\nInterface directly with customers and participate in Technical Progress Meetings (TPMs)\nCoordinate with the SIM Group Manager regarding project status and resource planning\nParticipate in internal and external project audits\nSupport project planning, task allocation, and resource follow-up\nContribute to project management documentation and reporting\nAdditional Activities\nDepending on project needs, additional responsibilities may include:\nPerforming studies, analyses, and investigations related to software systems and technologies\nEvaluating software technology trends and methodologies for future applications and prototyping activities\nSupporting technical proposal preparation\nSupporting customers in ground software systems development and operations, including potential assignments at customer sites\nThis is a full-time position based in Darmstadt, Germany, with an immediate start date.\nQualifications & Competencies\nApplicants should hold a university degree in:\nComputer Science\nSoftware Engineering\nAerospace Engineering\nElectronic Engineering\nMathematics or Physics\nEquivalent qualifications may also be considered if supported by strong software engineering experience.\nEssential Skills & Experience\nMinimum 5 years of experience modelling satellite systems and subsystems\nHands-on experience with SIMULUS and other simulation frameworks\nExperience with simulation standards such as SMP2 or ECSS-SMP\nStrong programming skills in C++ and object-oriented software development\nExperience working in GNU/Linux environments\nStrong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously\nExcellent communication and presentation skills\nProactive, self-driven, and solution-oriented mindset\nAbility to mentor and support junior engineers\nAbility to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines\nFluency in English, both written and spoken\nAdditional Experience Expected\nProven track record in managing or supporting software projects within the Space industry\nKnowledge of software development processes and lifecycles\nExperience with model-based software engineering using UML\nExperience with unit testing (e.g., CppUnit) and system testing (e.g., JavaScript-based testing frameworks)\nDesirable Skills\nExperience with the following would be considered an advantage:\nAgile SCRUM and/or Waterfall software development methodologies\nCORBA and XML technologies\nPOSIX programming\nCI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices\nIndustry or agency software development infrastructures\nCustomer-facing technical roles\nAdditional Advantages\nThe following experience would be highly valued:\nKnowledge of and/or experience working with ESA, EUMETSAT, ESO, or other European space agencies\nExperience working with European space industry partners\nKnowledge of ECSS standards\nFamiliarity with Quality Assurance (QA) and Product Assurance (PA) activities\nThe position requires a high degree of independence, self-motivation, and initiative.
