This role manages a small, multi-disciplinary team of 3-5 engineers and 6-7 maintenance personnel to ensure safe, reliable operation of facility systems and to support an aggressive test schedule for advanced nuclear and thermal systems.\nThe successful candidate will combine strong technical competency, hands-on facility experience, and proven leadership in an industrial, test, or high-reliability environment. This position partners closely with operations, Equipment Qualification, EHS, quality, and Natrium program teams to drive equipment reliability, configuration control, and continuous improvement.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead, mentor, and develop a small team of engineers and maintenance technicians; set priorities and manage daily/weekly work execution.\nOwn facility systems from an engineering and reliability standpoint, including design changes, upgrades, and configuration management.\nPlan, schedule, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all facility systems and equipment, leveraging a CMMS.\nEnsure a strong safety culture and compliance with applicable codes, standards, permits, and TerraPower policies.\nSupport facility commissioning, test setup, test campaigns, and post-test activities in coordination with operations and Natrium engineering.\nDevelop and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and procedures.\nLead or support root cause analyses, corrective actions, and reliability improvements to maximize equipment availability and minimize unplanned downtime.\nManage small to mid-size projects (capital and expense), including scope definition, estimates, schedules, and contractor oversight.\nMonitor and report performance metrics (e.g., equipment reliability, maintenance backlog, safety performance) and implement continuous improvement initiatives.\nKey Qualifications and Skills\nRequired:\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear, Industrial, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.\nApproximately 8+ years of relevant experience in industrial facilities (e.g., power generation, chemical/process, test facilities, nuclear, or other high-reliability environments).\nDemonstrated experience leading or supervising engineering and/or maintenance teams in an operational setting.\nProven experience with maintenance program development and execution, including preventive and corrective maintenance and use of a CMMS.\nStrong understanding of industrial safety practices and regulatory compliance in operations environments.\nExperience with engineering change control, configuration management, and technical documentation.\nExcellent communication, leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate across functions and disciplines.\nPreferred:\nAdvanced degree in an engineering discipline or engineering management.\nExperience in nuclear, DOE, or other highly regulated environments; test or R&D facility experience is a plus.\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.\nExperience implementing reliability engineering methods and metrics (e.g., RCA, RCM, FMEA).\nExperience with commissioning and start-up of new or modified facilities.\nFamiliarity with advanced reactor, energy storage, or thermal system technologies.\nThis position is subject to qualification requirements in accordance with ANSI/ANS 3.1.
