Assistant Buyer - Seasonal Events - 9 Month Parental Leave Cover

About the role

As an Assistant Buyer in our Seasonal Events team, you'll help shape exciting product ranges for some of our biggest trading moments. Owning the end-to-end buying process for key Christmas gifting categories and a spring event, you'll use customer insight, market trends and supplier partnerships to create ranges that deliver for both our customers and the business.

From product development and range planning to supplier management and trading performance, you'll play a pivotal role in bringing products to life. Working closely with Merchandising and Buying teams, you'll ensure ranges are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest standards.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Assistant Buyer to gain exposure to senior stakeholders, influence key decisions and further develop their commercial buying career in a fast-paced, high-profile team.

• Annual bonus scheme of up to 10% of base salary.

You will be responsible for

• Providing support to ensure my category has a long term, customer led plan which drives loyalty
• Conducting regular store/website visits and reviewing customer insight and trends, helping shape our future product and range requirements for our customers
• Helping to build and source customer/market insight led ranges and product innovation
• Negotiating with suppliers, improving the trading position in a sustainable way
• Delivering my department’s trade, promotions/marketing and events plan, striving to exceed KPI forecasts and drive footfall
• Supporting Tesco Business Services and Supply Chain, helping to get our products in all channels on time
• Working with suppliers and the category quality team to ensure product quality is achieved and maintained
• Loading Commercial Income and ensuring our suppliers are invoiced correctly, managing over-charge, under-charges and aged debt on a weekly basis
• Briefing, developing and managing all artwork and POS and managing GHS set up
• Adhering to all Tesco policies, storage and handover protocols and successfully completing all training

You will need

• Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to use customer insight, market trends and performance data to make informed decisions.
• Confidence in supplier management and negotiation, building strong partnerships to deliver the best outcomes.
• Experience managing product development, range planning and critical paths to ensure products launch on time.
• Strong trading and analytical skills, with the ability to review performance and identify opportunities for growth.
• Experience working closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
• A track record of delivering against sales, profit and KPI targets.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and key projects simultaneously.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including the confidence to work with and influence senior stakeholders.
