The role is responsible for our charging product portfolio including, but not limited to Super & Mega charger, Optimus Charging and Wall connector and works cross functionally with other engineering and service teams. We are seeking a multi-faceted engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting products. To be effective, the Field Quality engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of our Energy Products and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.\n### What You’ll Do\nMonitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure mode\nTriage emerging trends and use engineering first principals to come up with failure hypothesis\nCoordinate efforts with the Failure Analysis team to identify root causes of problems\nApply knowledge of mechanical, electrical engineering and PCBA manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production / design / supplier / Firmware\nCommunicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering leadership on improvement priorities and urgency\nDrive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing direct and accurate feedback to design owners\nShare Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs)\nTake part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology)\n### What You’ll Bring\nDegree in Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline or equivalent experience\n2+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability, or durability testing (including relevant internship or academic lab work experience)\nAbility/experience to navigate existing software/firmware tools and logs to identify and label failure modes encountered\nThe successful candidate for this position must have a broad engineering background with the ability to work with design engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues\nExceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside\nAbility to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data\nPreferred: Experience with inverters, EV batteries, HV controls, and/or industrial grid codes\nPreferred: Experience working with DC Fast charging systems/features (e.g. high-voltage DC busses, DC isolation monitoring, grid-tied systems, network diagnostics, CAN communication, PLC, Modbus, TCP/IP protocols, etc.)\nTesla is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
