This position plans, organizes, and delivers swim lessons in accordance with standards established by the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program. The Instructor promotes water safety, skill development, and confidence while ensuring a safe, supportive, and welcoming aquatic environment for residents and visitors.\n\nPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nEssential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:\nSupervises and leads the day-to-day fitness class operations, programs and activities allowing plenty of time to build client relations. Arriving early to prepare for fitness class equipment distribution for each class.\nMust take attendance for assigned fitness classes including the number of participants and keeping track of program roster if applicable.\nOversees, leads, and assists with various fitness related activities; observes participants during program; enforces rules and safety procedures; implements disciplinary actions as necessary.\nParticipates in facility or venue set-up, clean-up, and sanitation.\nSupports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.\nThis position will specifically:\nConduct group and private swim lessons for participants ranging from infants to adults and from beginner to advanced skill levels\nInstruction includes proper stroke technique, water safety practices, and aquatic survival skills, with teaching methods adapted to accommodate varying learning styles and abilities. \nMaintain continuous supervision of participants to ensure safety, enforces all aquatic facility policies and procedures, and helps maintain a clean and organized pool environment.\nDevelop and implement lesson plans consistent with the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum and prepares instructional materials and equipment prior to each class session.\nRegularly evaluate participant progress and provide constructive feedback to participants and parents or guardians.\nMaintain accurate attendance records and progress documentation.\nWill be required to inspect, set up, and properly store aquatic equipment such as kickboards, noodles, and flotation devices, as well as reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.\nProvide professional and courteous communication with residents, visitors, and staff is expected at all times, supporting Teton County’s mission to promote healthy lifestyles and community wellness through aquatic programming.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\nEducation and Experience:\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent\nUp to 1 year of experience in recreation programs or working with childrenPrior experience as a swim instructor, lifeguard, or swim coach is preferred.\n\nRequired Licenses and Certifications:\nMust possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.\nCPR and First Aid Certification.\nWater Safety Instructor certification from the American Red Cross.\nRequired Knowledge of:\nRecreation site safety rules and regulations. Follows proper procedures for safety protocols.\nRecreation Instructors are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming studio space for group fitness classes.\nMethods of program planning and implementation keeping in mind that all classes will be open to all abilities from beginner to expert.\nPrinciples, practices, and methods of conflict resolution and problem solving.\nRequired Skills in:\nProvides correct exercise modifications to diverse ability levels in all classes.\nEstablishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.\nAssessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.\nAdministering basic first aid and CPR.\nMust demonstrate proficiency in all competitive swim strokes, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.\n\nPhysical Demands/Work Environment:\nWork is performed both in an indoor or protected environment and outdoors.
